Peezy's Black Magic 2013

Congrats but oh my god I would have never demoed that bathroom. Hint you could have had someone pay you for removal of that tile. Good coin in old tile. After WW2 building materials were the at the best quality found. Until mid 60's found out people will buy garbage for the sake looking new. I restored everything in my last house circa 1949 which turned around to bring me a nice return in coin when we sold it...

Matty, we saved like 100 tiles. I had a feeling they would be worth something. I just don't know where to go from there. I guess I could google some places that buy old tile?

I almost pulled the trigger on a few of the green tiles I needed for my shower on ebay, $5 a piece!

Okay with that last pic pearl I'm not sure that those aren't blocks, that's plaster or mortar of some sort and over time it decomposed into those "blocks", like the grout ate away at it or something. they are perfectly shaped even in the weird corner and border tiles. That's pretty wild that it did that, I wonder what caused it. maybe the lady used some kind of industrial acid to clean her bathroom and it got through the grout 😉

Congrats! Are you saving the tub? You can get it refinished for ~$500 instead of replacing.

Good luck with the renovations, I'm tempted to post a picture of my bathroom remodel that was started soon after w closed (Aug 16).

Post pictures, wtf man. Take your criticism and enjoy your tips and tricks, that's what the forum is for! 😀

We had thoughts of keeping it and just putting in a new sink/toilet, but that changed rather quickly. I think this will be better off in the long run.

No doubt, better to get it done from the get-go, otherwise it takes forever...

Congrats on Pearl Manor!

Thumbs-up on ditching the tile. Replace it with something grout-less. Grout in the shower is evil.

Looks to me like the mortar was spread on the back of each tile instead of on the wall. Not sure why...

These things are perfectly aligned:

my guess is the wall was not plumb, so the tile guy packed it out. bed looks more narrow at the bottom.

More likely just a DIYer that didn't know what he/she was doing. I've always wanted to see the look on the guy's face that bought our first house and saw my three stooges kitchen plumbing job...

that's original to the house, I don't think it's a DIY job. It's 100 times nicer than my DIY job, I think it was done with skill. And I think Fidodie was right, it does seem much thinner at the bottom. that's a neat trick, I wish I knew about that last month.

I've definitely made Rube Goldberg proud with some of my "fixes" at the old place.

No that is how it was done. Plaster contractors were the ones who installed tile back then and was how it was done. It was the look like wainescoat where you build out. Tile was set in mortor.

Someone needs to explain to me what these building materials are, I've been talking to pearl all weekend and it's driving me crazy.
What are we looking at behind the studs, it's another room, but it looks like some kind of 2x8 sheet with 2" holes all over it with plaster? coming through. WTF is that? Or is that an exterior wall and they used a glue to hold on the insulation?

Luke that is called Rock Lath, I have it in my house. Its way stronger than sheet rock. I don't have to worry about a door flying open and the door knob putting a hole in the wall like sheet rock, its as hard as rock. It does suck if you need to drill a hole in the wall, you need a masonry bit + a hammer drill is easier.
Here are the details about rock lath.
