Party for Marty Nov. 20 - help out Cycle Boy!

Hi all -

Many of you know Pete (CycleBoy) from this forum. Maybe he's given you great advice about what frame to buy, what shoes not to buy, how to grease your bearings, etc. Maybe he's led you on a tour of Jungle Habitat - either with or without his flask! 😉

One thing you might not know about him is that his adorable son Marty has Cystic Fibrosis. As you can imagine, it's not an easy thing to deal with. Team Town Cycle is having a fundraiser on Saturday, November 20 so we can start a trust fund for Marty to help pay for expenses not covered by insurance, etc. Please go here to find out more.

Please spread the word among your friends, and please try to join us - the more the merrier - and the more money we raise!

Thanks everyone!

This is great that you are doing this. I had a close family friend pass away 4 years ago at the age of 26 from cystic fibrosis. Its a tough fight. I will be there and try and get a posse with me for a good cause.

Thanks so much - that would be so great! We're working on getting donations right now, and our next big step will be getting people to come out! We're going to have a great variety of items, everything from homemade apple pies to items autographed by Boomer Esiason! So please spread the word!

Thanks again!

I am donating a Haro z-20 kids BMX bike. Great beginner 20" bike for the younger kids with tons of style. If anyone has a younger kid def. come check it out!!

I'll autograph it if it will help raise the price 😉

Wow, that is so unbelievably cool - thank you so much! Lots of people with kids around, I'm sure it will be a popular item! Especially with your autograph!😀

We're really hoping to be able to help Pete (CycleBoy) and Kelly and Marty out - as we all know, it could be any of us on any given day. Thanks again to everyone for pitching in!

Oh, my. That is a really tough situation and I am so sorry Pete and his family are going through this.

I don't live in the area but I was passing by yesterday. I wanted to drop off some brand new kids clothes, hoodies and stuff, new with tags on. Useful play clothes, I'm sure someone will bid. The store wasn't open so I dropped them off behind the store. I put them under the blue wheelbarrow inside a plastic bag. It's been dry weather so they should be fine for the 12 hours or so they were outside.

I will try to come up with some more stuff and send it over. I did not get a chance to look at the youtube til I got home. Marty is absolutely gorgeous. I also recognized Pete, he *has helped me out on a ride at JH. Thanks to Town Cycle for organizing. Heidi

Hi Heidi -

Thanks - we got it - great stuff! I'm sure someone will be thrilled to bid on it! Thanks for making the trip and keeping Pete and his family in your thoughts!

Thanks to everyone who has contacted us - we're so grateful!

What's the address to send stuff for the auction?

And what about straight-up money donations?...Who to make a check out to and where to send it?

Heidi -

We love handknit anything and everything - that'll be so great! Thanks again!

We're still waiting on the final paperwork for the bank account to come through (hopefully next week) - in the meantime, donations can be made out to Team Town Cycle, and in the memo area, please write "Marty Tranes Trust Fund". They can be sent to the Team Town Cycle P.O. Box - P.O. Box 557, West Milford, NJ 07480. If you are in the area, you can drop items off to Town Cycle, 1468 Union Valley Road, West Milford, NJ 07480. If you are mailing them, please put a label/notation on the outside of the box (so Mike and the guys don't think they are just another box of bike parts!) and enclose a note saying they are for the auction, and your name, etc. so we can put you on our list of donors.

Thanks again for all of your generosity - I know Pete and his family really appreciate everything!

We've had such a great response to our request for donations for our Party for Marty - thank you so much! So many of you have been truly generous, and we truly appreciate it. We're hoping to collect all of the donations by Friday, November 12 - let us know if that won't work for you, and we'll try to make other arrangements!

Now we need a little more help - let everyone know about the party! Bring your friends, neighbors, co-workers - we have small items, big items, toy items, sport items, food items - something for everyone! Come do some holiday shopping and help out a great little boy and his family!

Also, we wanted to let you know that Marty is currently having a tough time. He's in the hospital with pneumonia, and he'll probably be there about 10 days recovering, and, as Pete says, getting a CF tune-up. Marty is at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, 94 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey. Phone (973) 322-5000 or 1(888) SBHS-123. Please keep Marty, Kelly and Pete in your thoughts for the next week or so as Marty gets healthy for the holidays!

As always, let us know if you have any questions - info@teamtowncycle.com. Thank you again for all your support!

Crap, I spaced on the deadline! I've got a box of stuff that I've been meaning to send. I'll send it UPS tomorrow so it arrives at the shop on Wednesday. Will that be OK? 😱

Sorry to hear that Marty's having such a rough time right now. Best wishes to him for a quick recovery!

Sounds good - thanks again for thinking of Pete and his family!

Stay tuned everyone - later today we'll give some hints about some of the fantastic donations we've received, giving you even more reasons to come on Saturday night!

I'll only show if some benevolent fellow donates some free ice cream coupons. 😀

Cya Saturday! 🙂

Joe - you're on! 😀

For those of you who had asked about donations, we now have a bank account set up with Lakeland Bank. Hope to have it available for online donations tomorrow, but for checks, they can be made out to "Team Town Cycle/Marty's Fund", and mailed to P.O. Box 557, West Milford, NJ 07480.

For a sneak peak at a few of the auction items that will be available on Saturday night, take a look here . We'll tease you with a few more hints as the next few days go by, but trust us - the door prize is something you are not going to want to miss!

An update on Marty - he is still in the hospital, but slowly working his way toward home. We had hoped he'd be out by this weekend, maybe even make a quick appearance at his party, but it's looking more like he's staying put in the hospital until next week.

Many of you on this board have been super generous to Pete (Cycleboy) and his family, and we really appreciate it. Thanks again to all, and don't forget to tell your friends about Saturday night - snacks, drinks, and a good cause!

My family & I will be there. Was hoping my girls could meet Marty but sounds like he has other plans.

update on Marty

Marty is a strong little man. He's doin great. Right now he's working on his guitar skills here at the hospital with some of his friends on Rock Band. Tomorrow he will get a pick line in so we can continue the IV treatments at home. With that being said, there's a chance he'll be released before saturday and you all will be able to meet him. Keep your fingers crossed. Things are a little up in the air right now.
I can't thank everyone enough for all the donations and consideration you have shown us. Saturday will be a celebration that hopefully Marty can participate in for at least a little bit.
Thanks everyone!!!

Yea, go Marty! Thanks for the update Pete!

In today's news - our donation button is up on our blog page! Lots of people have been asking for a way to donate online, so we made it happen!

As far as a few more hints on auction items, here's a few more teasers ...
  • Have you backed up your computer lately? We can help!
  • Got some New Years resolutions to stay in shape? We've got you covered!
  • Did you crash one too many times with that old helmet? Check out what we have!
  • Girl Scout cookies, anyone? Oh yea.
  • Want to try skiing this winter? We can hook you up!

Like we said - something for everyone! So come on out and have some fun!

OK last reminders for Marty's Party! Many of you from mtbnj.com have already been super generous, and we want to thank you for that. Some of you have donated auction items, money or promised to round up a posse and come to the auction - your response has been nothing short of awesome, and we are truly grateful!

A quick note for those of you who are coming - please know that while we can accept credit cards, our preferred method of payment is cash or checks, so we can avoid those pesky credit card fees! Every penny we can keep in Marty's Fund is one more penny that helps him out!

Finally - a last group of hints to whet your appetite!

  • Bike parts and upgrades you can buy without feeling guilty - check!
  • Had a long day and need a drink? Us too!
  • Of course, you'll need some snacks to have with your drink ...
  • Maybe you like to unwind by fishing ...
  • Or hiking ...
  • Or shopping!

We really do have something for everyone, from homemade pottery to vacations, from snack and skin care baskets to bikes and bracelets. Big budget and small budget items - we've got it all! So grab your wallet or checkbook, and feel good about helping out a family in need while doing something fun!

So thanks again, and looking forward to seeing some of you Saturday night!
