OOS MOGA

Hey @UtahJoe, do pros dab in the tech?
sure, I mean WAY WAY less than cat 1 guys, but ya, still happens. But by in large, pro class guys are very well sorted bike handlers and mistakes are usually costly.

About that. At the end of the ride yesterday I expressed my thoughts about not racing the course because I don't stand a chance to win, but really I would hate to be the guy that has to stop for breather on a 12.5 miles race. Talking about it with @Patrick and @iman29 after the ride though, I realized that during the July challenge I never really stop during my rides unless somebody was chatting me or I had to crawl over an obstacle etc. So I am back puzzling over this thing myself.
Not telling you to or not to race.....but ill just say dont base your decision on how good you will do, having to stop, etc....Just go for a ride and try to enjoy yourself and finish. I think I made it about half a mile in my first race before I nearly passed out.

All solid points. I feel I could vastly improve if I could ride that course again a few times, but I can't. I wouldn't be able to ride Stephen's before the race in October, and the climbs in Ringwood are very different in my opinion, not sure they would work the same in term of preparation.

One think that kind of bothered me yesterday was that I started having the feeling that I was too close to the lead and slowing everybody behind me down. Then I had two sudden stops in front of @Mr.Moto that I should have avoided if I didn't have my head up my ass and forgot to down switch, which made me think I wouldn't be a welcome addition to the race scene and would be received like 'that ass that can't throw himself on the side fast enough when his legs give up'.

So I have some thinking to do. And pedaling.
When is this race? If I'm available, I'll do it with you so you can at least blow me away and def not be last. Haha.

Im pretty sure no one stopped or walked more than me yesterday @serviceguy but you didn't see because you were way in front of me. I watched you walk back down that huge rock climb and come back up riding it looking pretty easy to me - no way I could make it so I walked it.

As we talked about a little at the end, I went to the group ride with the mentality that I am going to ride it the best I can. I called out several times too many times to count to jump off intentionally when I felt a certain section was way over my head (many of them were!). On the other hand I was able to clear a few things I probably would not have tried without some tips and tricks from the group, or following the lead of people better than me.

I have to admit during the ride I was like WTF did I get myself into, especially with some of the rock sections that you probably consider no big deal. But once I settled the nerves down a bit and figured out what I could handle, the 2nd part of the day went much better for me.

I signed up for the actual event but I am not "racing it" I am riding it to challenge myself and I could care less about the results really (thats just me). If I go faster than yesterday, so be it, if not then whatever I can still say I tried. Its more about something to do so I have a motivational target to ride my MTB a little more (like YOU suggested I do) , do my best to stay safe and then hang out with cool peeps and the MTB whole scene and try to enjoy.

FYI - My profile pic is of my old bike on the very first MTB race I ever tried 4 years ago which was one of the MTBNJ Short Track races. I did the beginner class, on a really old hardtail rockhopper 26r on a course I did one time previously (that morning) which had mud, snow and it was freezing. Got 3rd place (mostly cause the 4th and 5th place guys DNF) but hell I will take it LOL!

Where’s the link to sign up?

That's kind of you. I 'maybe' signing up, just don't expect me to wear lycra!
@jdog wanna sponsor me with a set of that rainbow unicorn lycra hotness? Maybe 2 sizes too small so my beer gut hangs out to intimate the competition. I'll shave my tummy for speeds!

(I actually do dig that design and might buy the mtb version if you have them in stock at some point)
