Went through Rutgesrs (many memories...),

Hale Center DSCN0383.jpg

because I always wanted to ride Rutgers Ecological trails and today was a great day for it. Here's the new Business school (the one that I went to was in Newark) shortly before I dropped in the trails:

Kind of flowy, in great shape, didn't see @w_b, with one death climb. Then Johnston Park back to the towpath to Canal Park in South Bound Brook. Dropped three different layers off, ate and restocked the food bags.

Ride #2

Figure I gotta step up my game in Elite b4 Rob relegates me so:

Southwest to Six Mile Run, where I stopped for more food and threw up gang sign for Watchung MTB fb group:

(the trails are in great shape-thanks again @jdog ). Did Blue to Red and back to the towpath. Stopped at 514 crossing of the canal for water.

Professor of French Literature Carole (Dufarge?) rolled up on a no suspension 853 steel 29er that was about 10 years old, but very clean. She asked where I was going and I told her Canal Park, so we rode there together before she continued to Highland Park.

Another day in the battle for the bottom step...

2/28/2017: Sterling State Forest. Rode the new trail out of South Gate road. I see there are some "H" markings on part of the trail now, but not sure what they stand for. This trail is a good climb from either end but it rewards you with some nice down hill as well. Managed to figure out a loop to return by Tuxedo lake. Not a real long ride, but great weather again.

Rode by the BMX track - lots of kids, lots of energy.

Plenty of bike repair stations along the paths. Very few have working pumps, but tightening a loose bottle cage...priceless

Got bridge blocked. I climbed over the gate last time. Guess they didn't like that. Totally wadable at low tide.

Quick review of where to eat in Union, NJ:

Yesterday’s quite delicious lunch entrée was an Epic Lamb Bar:

Stopped at 660 Michigan Ave at the school of cosmetology to have $1 coffee at Leonardo’s “Bluebird” truck and wait out a quick shower. Delicious! Across the street from there is Don Alex’s Peruvian restaurant. Have to put that on the list. Mostly rotisserie chicken, but other Peruvian food as well.

On the way back, I checked out American Melts at 515 Springfield Ave in Kenilworth, NJ, which is less than 50 yards off the MUT. Early for lunch so I will have to hit it a different day. Nothing like grilled cheese:

1:25 into the ride, the skies opened up, so I beat it back to the office for lunch:

Being sick and starting a new job has kept me off the bike for some time. This has dropped me in the standings....bummed.

2/26/17: Riding plans had changed a few times which lead to a sweet ride in Allamuchy. Trails were in great shape with the exception of the typical wet spots.

2/27/17: Decided to ride the traditional loop backwards which was a ton of fun. Need to do this more often. BONUS RIDE; JORBA member for years.

3/1 - Watching the forecast, saw a window before work to get it in... I had to be back so I could drop my son off at school for before school band practice... I didn't pack any bike stuff for the rest of the day because the forecast looked like lots of rain. As the day progressed, the initial forecast was wrong and I could've ridden at lunch.. Oh well. Miss opportunity. Arrive home after work and was busy with helping my two older sons with math homework.

Took the Grasshopper for his sixth MTB ride. Was a bit worried on Tiger Woods in Allaire, when he wasn't around suddenly. He showed up a couple of minutes later and I asked him why he was covered in leaves, Chewbaca style. He said his pedal clipped a stump and he did his first OTB. No significant damage.

Beautiful cold (37 degrees!), sunny day to ride and I hit some of the trails south of Hospital Rd that I don't ride much.

Home in time for carb loading:
