I headed to the RUEP trails to beat the sunset. Nice day; great conditions, I wish there was more here.

2/21 Alarm Fail 1:22 https://www.strava.com/activities/874469740

Planned for a longer ride but I either shut the alarm off without realizing or it did not sound. Woke up late and pinched one out quickly before work. Another beauty day to be out on the bike.

I always wondered where my old ride ended up......

Can't believe it's still out there on the trails... 😉

Had plans for a big ride just to try and keep up but legs felt weak this am, throw saw in pack and go for the bonus, decided to start clearing an old go around on a quad path rideable now, also cleared a couple of downed trees 1 sawed, 1 dragged off the trail, also stopped often to pick up downfall, trails were in prime shape it was the dirt roads and quad paths that were like wet cement pics on Strava, @rlb , had my phone in my pack as I was clearing the go around feel free to subtract 45 minutes from my time when doing TM, if you zoom in my strava you can see where I was walking back and forth

Where do I begin? Well... my last time out was in December and banged up my knee when I fell. The doctor said I bruised my miniscus pretty bad, and would take some time to heal. He prescribed a no ride diet considering how much walking/standing/climbing I do for work (60hr work weeks) until he saw an improvement. During this time I was also finding out I was a going to be a Dad and instantly I became worried about when/where I will live because my place was sold so I had to find a new place- I decided on moving in with my girlfriend and her two roommates for a few months to bank some cash until June. Today i had a Dr apt and he gave the green light for riding.. so riding is what I did.

2/22/2017: Splitrock Reservoir (or Wildcat Ridge WMA). I had read some comments on Strava from a reliable source that the trails were in good shape so decided to give it a go. Good intel!

I also stalk @JimN on Strava and he rides many trails that are not on the maps and that I have never ridden. So, I decided I was going to try and find one of those on today's ride. I had no idea what it was called, but I had a basic idea where it was. At first I couldn't find it, but then I did. It turned out to be the "Oreland Trail" - a name I had heard before. It is a very nice trail with some rock elements and a number of old artifacts highlighted along the trail, like snowmobile parts, some plumbing, an old jug, old lawn equipment and a fridge. It is also very well marked with little pink-ish anvils.

I know there is a better option to getting back to my start than what I did. I chose to go up the orange Hibernia Brook trail from Batcave area, which was tougher then I remembered and involved periods of HAB. Certainly, with more time on my hands, I would've taken the blue Beach Glen Trail to Meridan Rd to green Righter Mine trail - a known entity.

Question for @JimN or anybody else...There is a purple trail that starts down at the bottom of orange just before the climbing begins. Where does that go? Is it a better option to get up top?

Didn't intentionally mean to do it but it ended up being two rides on 2/22 almost totalling 2:22:22, but ended up off a little more than a minute....Ah well

First ride was attack of the tick's, as they were out in full force today. Also came across this creation. Not sure what the story is behind it. Ritual sacrifice perhaps? Or maybe some psycho looking to burn the woods down? Either way, it must've took quite some time as it's rather large.

Second ride junior wanted to go out for a spin, so I couldn't turn him down. He's absolutely ripping on his balance bike, he likes to go to the top of the hill and shred down it. Need to get him on a bike with cranks real soon. Took a video but it wouldn't download.

This is just crazy weather for February.

2/22 - https://www.strava.com/activities/876392341

I rode all of High Mountain, very slowly.

Question for @JimN or anybody else...There is a purple trail that starts down at the bottom of orange just before the climbing begins. Where does that go? Is it a better option to get up top?

It doesn't go anywhere good. The quickest and easiest way back up to Wildcat from the bottom of the Oreland Trail is to just go up Darlington Drive. Make a left onto Green Pond Road where you exit the power lines, and then an immediate left. I don't even cross the road coming out, I just ride on the wrong side of Green Pond because the shoulder is huge and it's a very short ride. This is a residential street you climb, and it ends at a gate. Go around the gate and continue riding on the gravel road. It dumps you out on Upper Hibernia Rd near the Hawk Watch parking area. A slightly more exciting way involves some woods roads. Same start onto Darlington Drive, but then you make a right onto a somewhat hidden trail entrance. I call it slightly more exciting, but they are just crappy old woods roads. The only trick to know for this one which screwed me up the first few times, is you need to ignore the no trespassing/beware of dog signs. It looks like you are riding into someone's backyard, but the trail continues just from the outskirts of their yard. Don't make a 90 degree right turn when you see these signs. I've ridden this when the dog was there and he didn't give a shit. You can see both of these routes on this ride:
