"Official" BIYF 2016-2017 thread

Wildcat quickie with @UtahJoe and @Bill_Dove. We ran into some guy walking out of Jonathan's Woods, and he told us we're not allowed to ride bicycles there. Some people just never learned how to share I guess.

Ya that was a first in 8 years of riding down that trail....which of course is basically a road and I could drive my focus down it. Not like it was single track.

I went out yesterday after I saw some activity the night before on my Strava feed......sadly, it was too wet and it started to rain again so I bailed before my hour.

This morning I decided to hit the beach again as I figured Allaire would be no better than yesterday. Awesome sunrise and an amazing amount of beach erosion and washed up crap.

1/27/17: Ground finally dried up enough to roll through without leaving ruts from my excessive winter weight. Being fearful my iPhone would die due to the colder temps as well as the fact it was dark when riding this am, I was limited on the selection of Historical things to photograph. That being said, I took a quick shot of this old fireplace. Honestly, this is a stretch for qualification as I'm not even sure the age, its significance, or if it was once attached to a structure of some kind. I'll work on a better submission this weekend.

1/27 - Commutes: Hiding from the wind

Morning: 1:36:41 - Felt like taking the D&R today and I left with plenty of time to jerk around. Since I had time, I decided to take the tow path up to Washington Crossing, snapped a few pics and then rode up the hill and was greeted by an awesome sunrise sky.

Commute home: 1:37:58 - wanted to try the canal on the PA side on the way home. I'm glad I did, it was well maintained, smooth, wide and way better scenery than Trenton.

1/26/2017: Riding on the road again. I really don't much enjoy the road. I really am a mountain biker. But, I like riding a bike better than the hamster routine at the gym. I also don't own a real road bike. The closest I come is a hybrid. But, because of my propensity to jump into the woods on a whim, I've pretty much defaulted to riding my 29r HT on the road. So, I make it harder on myself, I guess. This little treasure hunt to find historic stuff has made it more interesting though. Prepare for excessive photos.

BONUS (unless I got it already)

This monument, canon, plaques, etc. are right in the center of downtown Suffern (my town). I rode past it yesterday and didn't even think about it. I've past it a million times.

1/27/2017: Back to the woods. I've been wanting to check out the connection between Allamuchy and Stephens. Have ridden both numerous times (as well as Deer Park), but only did the multi with Deer Park and Mooch. Also, figured there was history opportunity at Waterloo village.

Saw a shooting star overhead as I dropped into Donaldson Park at the start of my ride. Made a wish (OK a few wishes) and hoped it would be a good ride. Like @huffster, I too am a trail rider at heart and all of this road riding lately was getting me down, so decided to hit up RUEP trails again to see if they had dried out any. Worked my way up, started feeling good, and BAM! the ol' stick in the rear derailleur trick and holey crap it's in pieces! Hanger and mounting area of the rear tri also mangled, nice. Removed offending parts and bent back enough for a trailside SS conversion to 32/11, ride out and hit the road back. Actually worked better than I thought it would so as I got close just decided to keep moving over to Metuchen for giggles.

Gotta figure out if I need a new bike, or can repair. I carry a spare hanger, but I need to get the mounting area back straight first, and I know it's not going to want to bend back nicely. Other options are get my DH bike, or my old(er) FSR back running, or (gasp) take the wife's Giant HT on the sly. First we gotta take the kids to Monster Jam this afternoon so I'll have some time to think about it.

Be careful out there. Enjoy a historical picture of what was my derailleur.
