Now 26" is really dead

Good stuff fft. People seem to totally exclude dirt jumping and street in making 26 totally dead. 26 is big enough, like stupid big, no reason to go bigger whatsoever.

I am talking about the bikes where the big sales #'s are.

26" may end up in 170mm++ dual sus rigs, Dirt Jumpers, trials bikes and recumbents, folding tall bikes, fat bikes and bike polo bikes..

This is just the word on the street from the dudes who make these decisions.

And to think I respected you all these years....😀 jk Jeff, congrats on the new ride.

The only "26'er" I'll ever buy going forward is a Fat Bike....jdog, I'll be calling you on this😉

Fatbikers unite! I've been riding mine all over the place - Hartshorne, Chimney Rock, Allaire, Wharton State Forest, and Allamuchy North so far. Really fun, and surprisingly capable and fast. I'm all fat, all the time now. For me, 26" to 29" is only a shade of difference. Fat, on the other hand, is a whole 'nother thing.

I wasnt gonna tell anyone this but I did have an opportunity to ride a 29er this spring while my quick, corner railing, massive air catching 26 was getting tuned.

Here the deal: 29er sucks cock, period, end of story, not up for debate. If you ride like me, and severly slay corners, and have the front wheel off the ground 40% of the time, and both off the ground another 40%, and push the bars down in turns and huck anything, at all, even worm carcasses, 29er is dumb.

I rode a rumblefish, and it was goofy, didnt accelerate out of a hole shot, front wheel didnt lift as easy as a 26.

I sent it off a few jumps, not little ***** jumps, but real ones. I flat tabled it, it was like trying to fvck a prostitue through a chain link fence, it felt horrible and down rite dangerous. I landed with one leg behind the bike and blew the next set. Their use is limited. I gave it an honest try and my friends ever agreed that Im twice as fast on a 26, and i aint kidding when I tell you I'll rip a fvcking 26 off anything, 29er - not so much.

The 650b is just a gimmick, like 5 hour energy. If you want big wheels just get a 29er, if you want 5 hours of energy, just snort chalk. Im out of this one, once again.

that was some funny stuff- nice job-

Been giving the Jamis Dragon 650 a lot of consideration. Could see it being my go to bike for places like Allaire, 6M, Clayton, and Rays Town. I dont however see it replacing my 6" 26 full for CR, Ringwood, VT, and Pisgah.

Wonder why all anger and desire to "Kill Off" the 26 by the 29er crowd. Kinda reminds me of the whole Shortboard vs. Longboard, Snowboard vs. Skis, Harley vs. Ninja, type thing.

Have Fun!

not sure these analogies work. Harley vs Ninja you're talking about 2 different types of riding crotch rocket vs more traditional bike. Snowboard vs ski you're not even talking the same thing. It's more rockered snowboard vs camber snowboard, IMO that's the better analogy.

I'll be interested to see what the big companies are doing with 650 ie. Trek and Specialized.

I am sure glad that I dont huck the gnar or shuck and jive while riding. I certainly dont shred out of corners!

Fan Freakin Tastic! 😛

That is a very apropos analogy IMO. As someone just getting into the sport that was the first thing I thought of when figuring out what type of bike might be right for me 26, 650 or 29er. If you end up with 3 widely ridden sizes I could definitely see there being some confusion at the consumer level.

I know as someone that snowboarded for 20+ years with a brief hiatus, I was confused as hell when I went to buy a new board.... rocker, camber, flat, and all the hybrid profiles, plus all the new edge tech, and the fact that every company has their own names for things. The saving grace with that variety is that fact that with snowboards, boots and bindings can be used regardless of board tech. With bikes you aren't in that same situation when talking about wheels and forks. Shops would be in a tough situation I imagine trying to cater to that variety.

650b

So now we're supposed to buy into this? How much $$ is Specialized pumping into this new hype? Yawn.....

There has been too much money invested in 26" bikes. Their not going away. 29"? Yawn. 650b? Yawn.....

Just buy what's good for you.

They make bikes of all disciplines in most wheel sizes.

You want a 26in XC bike? Go for it.
You want a 29er all mountain? Go for it.
You want a 650b enduro? If it's not out now, wait a few months.

I don't get why people get so wrapped up in what other people are riding. And I've never seen people complain so much about having choices to pick from. So variety is bad now?

Run what you brung!!!!
