My Rant & Rave

So I'm on the Serpentine Trail the other other night, And I'm going up it/down it, depending which direction you're coming from. I was coming from the green USGS hut. So I guess I was going upgrade. So this dude comes flying down the trail, and we collide. No biggie as fars as I'm concerned. No damage to body or gear. But then he kinda had this condecending tone, "I don't how expierenced you are, yadda, yadda, yadda". Then he says you should be only going down grade on this trail. I said "really?" Now I'm always the courteous, respectful guy. I wanted to remind this isn't his personal trail and that there are kids, women and weekend warriors out here and he should be a little more cautious Any thoughts?

You have as much right to go up the trail as he does down.......he was probably pissed because you ruined his KOM. 😉

most people ride this trail down hill very fast with reckless abandon. when you ride this trail reverse(uphill), i suggest (for your own safety) being very loud either vocally or with a bell.

this trail flows great no matter which way you ride.

What Schilling said. It's known for downhill fast. I like the steady uphill grade myself but always shout out as best I can with blind corners. Same rule with all the summer foliage in the whole park really. Had my 1st collision after all these years on white recently. Unfortunately it's just one of those risks. BTW, hitting a cyclist sucks but much softer than a car. Take my word for it. Out of the game for a while. 🙁

I was climbing up the switchbacks once and I almost ran overo someone who was coming downhill slower than I was climbing. He went OTB in front of me while I was in control going up hill. Felt bad for the guy.

I had dis noob tell me I was going the wrong way as I was going up Serpentine one day too. I laughed at the dood.

I have that experience too being ran over by a group of cyclist last sunday. Thats why its very seldom I ride in the weekend in allaire. My son and I was on the steelman and there's a climb section there more like a switchback and 3cyclist going down and doesnt yield and they kinda piss because I think I ruin their KOM's. I stopped for them and no "thank you" at least. Thats why early weekday is the best in allaire. Thank God no collision.

Its the really fast twisty, dug out trail that heads down to the USGS shack. I usually hit it twice in both directions every time I visit the sandbox.

People need to recognize tho. It's not a one way trail. It's fun to fly down at light speed but always be aware that someone can be coming up the other direction. I usually holler before every turn are hang on my bell. DING DING DING!!!

The same could be said for the glass trail... One direction is more flowing and the other is a bit more work. I try to be prepared for another rider to be coming at me at any given time because I use a lot of these trails in both directions and I assume others do as well. Some of us don't ride for fun every ride and are looking for a little less flow and more work at times. I would say that you have every right to politely tell another rider that the trail is not a one way trail even if they feel their way is the more fun or "right" way.

It is the responsibility of all of us to ride under control at all times. That means being able to control our speed and stop for others that we encounter on the trails.

Admittedly, I go stupid fast down that trails. Feels like a bobsled run and the banked turns are awesome. I typically avoid going up it but will follow my group of buds if that is the way they go.

Unfortunate things may happen. Let's try to be gentlemen. Keep your head up and a finger on the brakes. Anyone suggesting the trail is one way is just a self-righteous asshat.
