big thanks to norm for pulling this all together and a big thanks to walt for bringing everyone coffee, hot choclate, donuts and in the event it was necessary, a hand truck. walt also brought his mary. what an eye opening experience that was. truly. the bike feels and rides COMPLETELY differntly than mine. while i love the mary bars, those things are going in favor of the carbon fiber bars, larger stem and the egons. that's how much i liked it. the pace fork is also great...but lately i'm on the fence about keeping ms. mary rigid or stepping up to the reba. if i do what i say i'm going to next year (that won't be released until my 'personal statement v2' goes up) then it may happen. especially if i go with some carbon stuff. a new bike, while i'd love to get it, may not be in the card next year. again, more to come on that in the PS v2. so...thanks a whole friggin' lot walt.
😀
so, my last comments are regarding maurice. first, i'm just stunned at how fast he is. i mean, he just flies. i clocked him doing 33 mph UP HILL on the yellow trail. ok, so that's not official and no, i didn't have a radar gun but that cat was moving. i don't think he was even breathing hard. as bill (graveyardman67) put it, "maurice does at least 13mph no matter where he is on the trail and doesn't stop. up hill, single track, whatever." knowing bill the way i do, i'm guessing that's gonna light a fire under his arse come jan 1. between now and then, way too much drinking to do.
another thing maurice educated me on was the set up of my bike, which by all accounts is, if i'm grading, a D+. i've mentioned that i've always felt like 'mary poppins' riding it. well, maurice did too. for him it makes a huge difference since he's a go fast guy. he can tell. me? bah. i know nothing. i get on the bike and ride. geometry off? no big deal. i didn't do well in that anyway. i just know i'm not in pain from the bike so that's fine. anywho, apparently my mary poppins-esque feeling is lifting my front tire quite a bit keeping too much weight back on the climbs (and here i thought it was my arse) and slowing me down. too many spacers. it may also account for my lack of prowess...or i just suck at turns. probably a bit of both, more latter than former but hey, any excuse, right? also, my wheels flex. alot. for maurice to notice the rotor rubbing when he's outta the saddle (i would put maurice at about 140lbs, 60ish lighter than i) it's gotta really be moving.
thanks for the tips maurice. next time i see you, you'll have to re-evaluate it and lemme know.
ok, that's it. tomorrow is a recovery day. from what? probably the 15 beers i drink tonight. hurray beer!
