There is a 2-disc "Best of" compilation which was released last year, and it's pretty solid.

Is there a "best of"? I have all of their stuff on cassette from my HS days, but do no want to buy hem all over again on CD...

yes, THE BEST OF THE BEAST, there are other greatest hits CD's but this one has more songs.

\m/ up the Irons \m/

I finally got my special edition CD/DVD of DREAM THEATER's Systematic Chaos and THE DARK ETERNAL NIGHT is been kickin' my arse the last few days :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:

other bands: Rush, Queensryche, Judas Priest, Helloween, Pearl Jam, etc, etc, etc...

WARNING!!!!
The eponymous e.p. and The Warning were huge when they came out. I just remember everyone's jaw dropping at Geoff Tate's vocals. Combined with the power of the band, it was massive. I thought Rage For Order was really interesting in its experimentation, but they lost me after that. The songwriting seemed to go toward middle ground, IMO.

Saw them twice opening for Maiden at Radio City in January 1985. Boy, was I drunk. Boy, did I hurt my neck.

I was at one of those shows. It was the one where the guy fell off the balcony, and people in the audience were ripping the seats off and setting them on fire. If my parents only knew...

I had (and still have) pretty punctuated tastes in music. I really loved QR and Iron Maiden, but everything else in that genre fell flat. Ont he flip side, I was also listening to the 92.7 dre/lir new age music at the same time. This variation in music still holds true today.

I was supposed to go to one of those Radio City shows, but it was canceled, probably due to the antics of previous nights. Ended up getting tickets for the Philly show at the Spectrum at the last minute w/ Twisted Sister opening.

Saw Queensryche open for Metallica at Stabler Arena (Lehigh) in '89, though.

Still love Maiden, but not so much into any Queensryche beyond Operation Mindcrime.

I agree with the comments about Queensryche, although I do like Empire, but everything after just doesn't do it for me anymore. Perhaps it was the departure of DeGarmo that caused Queensryche to go downhill.

You guys were so lucky to see all those bands in their prime, during those years bands didn't go to Mexico on their tours 😡 , so I just started catching them live after 1996 when I came here.

Pandora

Some of you probably are already aware of Pandora, but for those who don't here it is.

www.pandora.com

It is a cool site that lets you create customized Radio Stations by entering the artist or song. Then it plays music that is similar to whatever you entered.

I have been using it to try some of the bands that have been mentioned on this thread.

pandora is great! I listen to it at work just about every night as opposed to listening to the radio. I have discovered many bands w/ good tunes from here

The best part about it is that its free!

now exploring some new bands (for me)....

Rise Against, Billy Talent & Sugarcult

some Rock En Español too...

Panda, Volovan, Allison & Jumbo

Band: The Apples in Stereo
CD: New Magnetic Wonder

24 songs fired at you in rapid succession - none of them longer then 3 minutes. I would describe this as low-fi indy power pop with in a psychedelic edge. Perfect summer car tunes.

Since we are talking about new tunes, my wife just bought me an ipod so I have been busy buying and transferring

If any of you folks were fans of the Misfits, Glen Danzig just released a 2 disc set of all unrealesed songs. Some Samhain, some Misfits, but alot of his own stuff that he and Rick Rubin could never agree on or just felt it wouldnt go with the albums flow. Good stuff. I have been at vintage vinyl almost as often as I have been at Halters.

am i the only one who's happy to have oldies back on 101.1? i like my punk and metal, but grew up listening to that stuff in my moms car and country in my dads truck, and have a soft spot for both...

I don't really listen to the radio anymore, I carry my IPOD in the car. But I did see that on the news.

Did you know this?

"In a reference to the series finale of The Sopranos, the final song on Jack FM format was "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey, ending at 12:44 PM in the same spot it abruptly ended on the Sopranos finale. Then, after a few seconds of dead air, the oldies format returned in the same way it left. " ...from Wikipedia

i only listen to it at work, in the truck. i'm not about to bring an expensive personal audio device in there with me.
