Dude i still have the tape of the" NEPHILIM" you made for me in the way back machine!

A while back you were talking about riding the trainer with Black Sabbaths "Masters of Reality" blasting in your face. Since then, I have been on a Black Sabbath kick, I gave my friend a list of like 40 songs and he burned them all for me, so I have my own greatest hits cd.

The other day I was in Vintage Vinyl in Woodbridge picking up some new stuff, and I was drawn to the Iron Maiden stuff, think Im going to make my own Maiden greatest hits next.
The first six Sabbath albums are crucial. Master of Reality and Vol. 4 are both perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Maiden still brings it to this day. There's stuff on their latest, A Matter of Life and Death that is absolutely fierce. Their first six lps are also an amazing run of quality. Let me know how that greatest hits comes together; it'd be fun to compare notes on favorite songs.

Vintage Vinyl is still the best record store I've ever been in, including what NYC has to offer.

Speaking My Language

Iron Maiden has probably gotten more play with me over the past 20+ years than any other band. Always in a mood to hear them. Saw them for the first time when I was 14 with my father of all people.

No Mother Tongue needed. Ralph Wiggum quotes work perfectly fine.

Here's whats been cranking in my GTI

King Crimson - Red
Toumani Diabate's Symmetric Orchestra - Boulevard De L'Independance
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
The Racontuers - Broken Boy Soldier
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
Primal Scream - Riot City Blues

Oh thats right, I don't own a GTI. Nevermind.

I love all the Wilco albums. I just dusted off and rediscovered A.M. a few weeks ago. 'Passenger Side' is a total classic.

Don't have A.M., I'll have to pick it up one of these days.

Did you get their Kicking Television?

Wilco has a new CD coming out in a few weeks - Sky Blue Sky. I DL'ed it over the weekend. Gone are all the feedback, noise and other studio trickery of the last few CDs. Kind of a somber affair. It will take a few more listens to sink in before I make up my mind.

A.M. was the first after the Uncle Tupelo breakup. Shorter, catchier songs with more of that alt-country meets punk feel. Pretty upbeat stuff.

Kicking Television?? What's that?

It's a live CD they put out not all that long ago. I'm not big on paying money for live music (unless it's a live band such as the Dead or Phish) but it got really good reviews so I picked it up. My first listen was lukewarm and I basically forgot about it until recently. Listening to it at work today and I like it. I don't know what I was expecting when I put it on the first time.

Not surprised by what you say about the new album. They seem like a metamorphosis band to me and "somber" certainly isn't out of the arena for them.

Gotcha. Wilco is one of those bands that allows legal trading of their live shows, so I already have a bunch of their live stuff - some of which is pretty good quality. I guess thats why I didn't pay any attention to that release.

Speaking of live bands, I picked up My Morning Jacket based on some of the recommendations in this thread. Great stuff. Take equal parts Allman Bros & Radiohead, sprinkle in some Neil Young/Crazyhorse and bake. It doesn't sound retro either, despite the influences.

Interesting description. What album did you pick up?

First I picked up the studio CD called "Z". Was so impressed that I wanted to hear what they sounded like live, so I grabbed "Okonokos" which is a double live CD. I'm sure others in here can give more recommendations since I've been a fan for all of 2 days.😀
