Music

I caught the Beck show in Philly from 2007 when that video was shot... The tour where he had the puppets mimicking everything happening on stage. What a great show and tight band.

Maceo Parker is great... The first time I heard of him was on the 3 Feet High and Rising album... " My name is Maceo and I be blowin the soul out this horn!"...LOL

Love you Spence, but that quote is for sure from Buhloone Mind State 😉

As far as Kool and the Gang.... who can name the two Hip Hop heavyweights , one of whom recently passed away, that sampled this gem :hmmm:

Feedback
Ok since were on the topic of funk...Spence I see your Ronnie Foster and I'll raise you a Jimmy Smith. I've said it before and I'll say it again the early 70's was the best time for funk. So much material from this era was sampled by later artists because it was so amazing.

Funk Night
I've been sitting on this for awhile...I decided to whip it out tonight since its Funk Night. This is a hit from the 70's, introduced by a very not funky white man, Bob Hope, at a performance at Central Park. I love looking at these old clips to go back in time to see what was popular back then.
so tell me something good

Sam Beam is a pretty rare character that can control an audience with just his voice and guitar.

There were few records in 2008 that I listened to more than The Shepard's Dog. New album coming in a month or so........

Pretty slow stuff but I can't get enough of it:

The second the dude starting talking about ferns, I was out. I bet that guy is friends with the fuzz guy except this guys beleives in the goodness of brain fuzz.

I don't know a lot of music, but I have always been drawn to creative mixes or fusion of styles. At 16 I went to Loeb Student Center to hear Tony Rice, a Bluegrass artist, and I did not care for bluegrass much, but it was a date with a cool older guy that I really liked. I was totally blown away when I heard David Grisman Quintet play with Rice. Here is a well know collaboration with Jerry Garcia and Grisman:

Gypsy fusion like Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli are pretty cool too:

Grappelli had a great version of Misty, but I have not found that version online. Sometimes I wish I still had a turntable.

Whoa, completely forgot about Iron & Wine.

I'll share some favorites.

The Gaslight Anthem: These guys are from New Brunswick and got their start at the Court Tavern on Church St. Take Bruce Springsteen, throw in a bit more blues and punk and this is what you get. I've met many members of the band (and some of their family) and they're fantastic, genuine people. If you like Springsteen, you'll like these guys.
