Knee pads 2021

ooooo yeah, I have a hole in my knee from some Round Top shale that would have been soooo much worse with out pads
Sorry to derail thread but is Roundtop doing an enduro again this year? That was without doubt my favorite race last year.

Taking my own advice, ordered the Pearl Izumi ones on sale yesterday.
Post review. I’m very anti pads but have obliterated my upper shin twice in two weeks. If anything I would like something light to slip over existing obliterations to stop further obliterationing...

I have never worn pads mtb’ing. Only on bmx and typically only to save an injury from getting worse. So I am with you.

I get hurt worse when I wear bulky pads because I’m not comfortable and ride like shit.... But yeah, covering a massive goose egg on my shin would be helpful.

look for me at the mountain later this week, I'll some you what I've been using

Rode with the gforms this morning, as advertised
Quite surprised by the not really on there feel. These are minimalist protection but never did the slide down which would have been my first reaction. Tomorrow I will try the Sam Hill 7s which are more pad protection so they seem.

Interested which ones after following aka stalking this thread of experienced trail riders I think inneed to invest in some pads now that I have a legit MTB to ride.

The Dainese pads I ordered arrived yesterday. I wasn't sure about the sizes, so I ordered both S and M. I'll be damned if they don't look absolutely identical other than the size label... But the small seems to fit my skinny calves fairly well. Unlike my set from 2004, these can be fitted and removed without taking off your shoes - just three Velcro straps.

Fun fact: Italians apparently don't use "L" and "R" to indicate which side is which. Instead it's "SX" and "DX" for Left and Right respectively.

I'm hoping to ride Neshaminy tomorrow after work, so I may test how they are to pedal in, but hopefully not crash in - I did enough of that at Allaire on Mon when I wiped out on a wet bridge.

From the Latin: sinister and Dexter(ous)

These have caught my notice, but I'm wondering if you can comment on the sizing. One review of 7 Protection said that they run on the small side.

Since I bought my Pivot and have been reprogrammed as a rider, I've picked up a pair of Fox Enduro Knee Sleeves as my first try with "pedal friendly" knee protection. Having followed Fox's instructions for measuring leg circumferences, I ordered a Medium, and I'm not thrilled with their ability (or lack thereof) to stay put on my legs. That being said, I imagine a Small will be too tight. Fit issues aside, these fill the bill for something that will provide decent protection while not being a burden to pedal with.

So, I'm looking to try another brand, and the 7 Protection look like a good bet, given the extended upper sleeve and its ability to sit well under a pair of bibs.

Unfortunately, my calves are no match for those of @thegock , but hopefully the upper sleeve will suffice.
I also have the Fox Enduro sleeves & completely agree. They were great for the first few months but then started to stretch and are now worthless.

Just bought the POC Joint VPD...hoping to have better luck with these.

Me too. This thread made me reconsider knee pads, but I actually hate wearing & fighting with them. About 10 years ago when I built a play bike I got some DH arm/elbow pads, because if I can't jump clear of the bike when I go down I'll typically get pitched forward/sideways. Those pads still sit new in their nice mesh bag...

Well the 7 Sam Hill pads fit and stayed put like a favorite old pair of gloves. These are outstanding fit and protection the down side is they are definitely hotter then the GForm. So as @V-Dub mentioned with the advancement of the fit quality of today's knee pads "why not". Looks like GForms for trail and 7s when it's a spicy ride.

Per example I'm 6ft and you can say thick in stature and ordered XL like everything I wear, LOL! Wouldn't change the size on either set of pads.

Just picked these up:

Initial wearing them around the house thoughts. Very limited protection...I haven't had any major knee shots so this is what I wanted. They're comfortable as all hell though and fit me nice. Should work nice for regular trail riding.

I'm sweating just looking at this picture.
