Jungle Habitat race course?

are you talking about the big cat 3 crash in the beginning? (before that drop into the rock gardens and popped back up) i heard the mayhem behind me, i looked back and no one was around. kind of lost focus, i thought someone was seriously hurt. glad everyone was semi-okay.

Person in front of me Cat 2 19-29 crashed right after that corner and was successful in blocking me from going around 🙄 and then crashed again going up the little rock tabletop-ish thing onto the pavement before that rock garden. Thankfully I was able to get around at that point, but two crashes in the first, oh, 3-4 minutes was a little crazy.

James,

Good to see you on the site. Had no idea you read/posted. Don't mind Luke. He just tries to tweak people for the sake of it. He's really not a bad guy. Just slow. 🙂

Good to hear from you too Norm, I miss you passing me at every race and telling me what a good job I'm doing 🙂 Luke and I have talked about rallying and mtb and I agree he is a nice guy. I'm still not a roadie though!

LOL, no shit to that buddy! 😀 I dont know a roadie who could have done that course on your bike.

Luke's mixed up because you are in road biker shape and your mountain bike looks alot like a road bike. 😀

Haha, yeah with road bike geometry and 1.9 tires it sure can confuse people. Not that far off from a 'cross bike I guess.

Okay maybe I'm confused I thought James was an ex pro roadie. Am I thinking of another top guy in that class? I don't know who anyone is, but I thought there was some ex pro roadie contending with Utah and I thought it was James, my appologies. And props for doing so well on an old bike. I honestly appreciate that difficulty.

Thanks for the props, and no worries about the identity mix-up. that ex-pro roadie was/is 34-39. I've raced against him at a few nys races (30-39 up there) and he is way too fast for cat 2. He's not bad at the technical stuff either...

I'll see you all at ringwood- even though that place is cursed for me. I've never finished a race there. Though I haven't raced there in nearly 15 years. Maybe I'll even put a front suspension fork on.

Yeah, sure you will. 😉

nice meeting you sean (i was the other ss 29er trying to catch you the whole time) you're a beast!

Anyone know if anybody took pictures of the Cat 3 race? I know Joe told me Luke was in LV. Just curious if anyone else was out there.

I was only able to get SOME of the CAT 2s & 1s before calling it a day. When I was seeing condensation/moisture on the INSIDE of my lens, I knew it was time to bail! Even the rain gear I was wearing wasnt cutting it!! Kudos to all that braved the elements and did this course!!

Great Job Willie! You were sharp and your hard work is paying off.
The competition is really strong in our grouping.
None of us was going to catch first or second and we all came out injury free.

Also, thanks for the grilling and commaradarie.
I had a blast.

Thanks John, I must say we were doing some tough battling going up animal shoot, Me,you and Robert and most importantly allthough we all changed positions going up we did it safe and clean which is the way I like to Roll, so thanks for that. The only thing better would have been having Fred with us but he did not get a good start and got bottled up.There were some people that would not move out of my way even if they were crawling with there bike and thats not cool. If your down and someone says "on your left" just move! Hopefully we will all do it again at Ringwood and afterwards we will grill and shoot the $hit again and have our little end of the year party, I think Sergio Oliva said he would bring the burgers this time. Lets touch base before this weekend. Anyone else want to join us???????????

the sound of bikes hitting pavement made me cringe 🙁

man... i low sided there last year... hard!... got slammed, skittered across the pavement, lost about 5 spots, quickly got up, finished the lap and promptly called it a race! did much better this year! loved the course! c ya at ringwood

Dam, no pics of me almost sliding into you when I wiped out in that turn? 🙁

LOL!!! Joe, I guess I need to hardened my combat journalism skills!! My instincts were to get outta of the way of your fast moving sliding steel & aluminum!! I'll have to train myself of keeping the shutter button pressed while fleeing for safety!!! 😀

ps: I personally do wish I had those shots! Everyone likes to see a wipe out, as long as the rider is ok, which you certainly, and remarkably, were.
