I am looking for a job in the IT field. I am trying to gain the experience since thats what I am going to school for. Any help?

Thank you!

What type of experience do you have? that would be a help in finding some thing..

IT is a HUGE field. What are you looking to do?

I don't have a job or internship to offer, but a good place to start while in college is to build your own network. Get a used server, or PC, install one of the popular hypervisors on it (hyper v, VMware, zen, etc) build a few VMs.

Create an active directory domain, install and configure exchange, SQL, SharePoint....create a Linux vm. Play around with pfsense.

Lie, cheat, steal, or beg your way into an internship at a company known for letting their interns do more than fetch coffee.

Experience is extremely valuable.

what they said.

play with tools that work with the garmin files (xml editors/viewers)

get a google maps id (whatever it is called now) free for students for non-commercial use.

write an android app

learn some java

entertainment companies have non-paying internships - but are much more fun than other firms. (radio stations, etc) work your friends parents too. just need an in - and have a believable spiel. (spiel is 'game' in german..i'm sure it is a yiddish word tho)

----
now - what would you like to do with computers/information - really, i mean LIKE!

it is easier to go to work everyday looking forward to implementing some new feature, or installing a new piece of hardware, or any of the 100s of other things. (personally i like forensics - work for the fbi and be a programmer with a gun!)

if you are at the beginning of your education - come up with a concept you'd like to develop and do a project in each class around that concept - perhaps end up with something monetizable at the end.

Thank you guys for advice, trying to get my foot in the door. I have been thru a lot in my life and I know I can do this.. Thank you!
