IGVENTURE

Basically your 2 other popular for pay options are:

Torq

Traktor

Personally, I would try out one of the free ones and play around with it first. Let me know when you're ready to buy something cause it can get a bit tricky with all the different options. That article from mixxx.org explains it really well. You may not need everything if all you want to do is fade songs w/o cue'ing and look cool up in the DJ booth. If you want everything (headphone cue'ing + controller), be prepared to spend at least $200 for the inexpensive options.

Perhaps you will be happy just using the software and don't have to buy anything.

You could also go with 2 iPods (or any 2+ audio sources - 1 computer, 1 ipod, etc..), an inexpensive traditional mixer ($50) & no software. That will let you fade songs and cue in headphones, but that's about it.

You know iTunes, iPod has a fade in/out function right? 😀

Keep
on Trucking. Its a new year, its January and there is no snow on the ground. I like to xc ski but I also like to ride my bike, if we get snow I'll know what to do. Otherwise I'm going to keep on pedaling and enjoying the bike.

Today
This time of year I'd rather ride my mountain bike, its more fun, its warmer then the road bike and I like riding with people. I met Utah, Ilya, Falco, Ru, 26er and Kirt this morning at Wayway. It started out well but after an hour my ride ended when my derailleur hanger busted. I guess it was my turn for a mechanical, I've put in lots of mtb miles in the last month with no problems. On the fireroad back to the lot Ilya tracked me down with the same problem. It seems these derailleur things work fine then all of a sudden they rebel and cause an uprising.

Once I got home I did some chores around the house then said screw it, I need some more saddle time. I'm off from work and there is lots of daylight left, this time of year you take saddle time when you can get it. I headed out at tempo pace, still kinda pissed that my derailleur ended my ride.

Tempo pace is all business. There is no goofing off and no daydreaming at a recovery pace. Its all about putting a consistent steady effort on the pedals. Consistency is the key, no resting downhill or on a flat. I forgot how tough doing this can be, yeah I've been riding my bike but it has been more pleasure then business. I've got to keep some business in the rotation, otherwise Norm will asphyxiate me at races next year.

Vreeland I found a fixer upper for you on my ride yesterday. Even when these things look like crap there still an eye catcher.

they didn't have a 4sale sign on it but it was sitting in a lot with a bunch of other cars. this is the kind of thing i would buy if i was mechanical, smoked weed and basically just did not give a shit. I only fulfill the last requirement.

That's just what I'm looking for, Thanks Jimmy! I just ordered one and got the sound card too. My son has a Macbook Pro that we can DJ our Itunes out of. Me and Shmev are gonna roc-da-dance flo. We're both psyched!

this song will definitely be in da mix, I figure I can make a 15 minute dance version of this and fade in with some Sugar Hill Gang.

I've been riding my bike too, I'll update all you bitches tomorrow.

White Clay Review

Sunday I did a road trip down to Delaware to ride White Clay with Kirt and John Kuhn. Kirt has become my mtb butt buddy and John is someone I've known since high school as well as a former teammate from the Cranford Bike Team. If I have to spend two hrs. in a car with someone these are the guys I choose. The car ride there is as enjoyable as the mtbing...well almost.

Once we got into Delaware it didn't take long before we pulled into the parking lot of White Clay Preserve. We didn't know it at the time but we were parked some distance from the trail head. Following a Garmin link Kirt loaded we eventually found the trail head and began our journey.

The single track was fast and floweee and even though we were not familiar with the trails we were able to follow along and link the sections of trail system together by following the map on kiosks we passed randomly. The Garmin 500 was useless at keeping us on a course.

The trails were soft and greasy in sections due to the warm-up in temps but in general the trails were in good shape. The layout was well designed and the construction and maintenance of the trails were in good order.

In our travels we ran into Robin and Lance, I knew they were here as well. I was texting Robin asking her if she knew the trail system, she didn't but we managed to find each other and put in some fun miles togther.

Overall I give WC 3 out of 5 stars. Flow is fun but I need more. The construction and layout of the trails is top notch but without any technical terrain I find it monotonous. White Clay is on par with places like Allaire and 6-mile the faster you go the more fun you have. I'd go back if it wasn't 2hrs. away.

I get what your saying with white clay. Its a change of pace for those of us that like the rocks. Having been to both White Clay and Raystown, I think I might give a slight edge to White Clay. Raystown's trails were the best constructed/maintained I have ever seen, and while a blast, they seemed more monotonous then White Clay, which offered slightly more variety. White Clay is nice because it is a day trip, but I think a 3day weekend of Raystown/Rothrock is a must do trip.

Out of curiousity, what trails would you rate 5/5?

nothing is perfect but Cannonball/Ringwood and Wayway are as good as it gets imo...around here anyway. I've never been out west.

Mooch North and Jungle are good but they don't provide the mix of tech/flow that the top mentioned do. Mooch has the most technical stuff and the toughest climbs that can kill flow. But if your into tech that's the place to go.

I found a reason to write today, I'm going to do another trail review. As usual Kirt was with me and Clapper as well, this is the mid-week trail edition. We met at 9am. Let me start off by saying any day off from work to go mtb by 9am in above freezing temps is going to be a good day. Proceed forward.

Round Valley Trail Review

I'll come right out and say that RV gets 2 out of 5 stars. The trail layout is utilitarian getting you from point A to point B in a direct and sterile out and back route. There are rocks but they just seem to be littering the ground with no real purpose other then to slow you down. Despite the weak rating RV offers the hardest climbing in NJ. Its not technical, basically you just put your head down and don't stop pedaling until you've reached the top. From there you bomb downhill and rest up for the next climb.

I hadn't ridden here in almost 2 yrs. and had forgotten how tough this place is. My HR hasn't gone up this high for and extended period of time since race season. There is no soft pedaling up these climbs, its suffering. Clapper put it best when he said that "happiness is beneficial for the body, but it is grief that develops the powers of cycling."

Actually Clapper didn't say that, its kinda of a quote from Marcel Proust with my spin on it. Clapper did say you feel good after this ride and I'll agree with that. This place kicks your ass in a good kinda way.

Totally Random Shit (TRS)

This is my 13yr. old sons favorite song. He found it on one of his video games...I guess that crap isn't a total waste of time. Jimmy this one is in the mix!

I agree with you on RV - although its the closest park to me and when I need a swift kick in the a$$, I'll go there...

It's refreshing to see/hear that your son is listening to awesome music...I'm guessing he inherited your music-taste genes!!! My students (freshmen)...they need a lesson on music..sigh.
