I'm glad the story ended with just findign out who Young Doc was, as opposed to the natural progression the story was taking:

First no helmet...
Then no shirt...
Finally, no pants...?

I was at six mile run...not Rutgers Eco...
:worthless

shaken not stirred

didn't quite make it over a skinny bridge dumped it hard ...bruised knee and ribs, bent glasses, and put a new dent in my helmet ...dropped 2 other times ..do i lack some skills,maybee....but i will still be able to work on them, yes......thanks helmet!..........it was a great ride

It's working

I rode the full loop from 27 to ranger station & back twice this past weekend. Saw lots & lots of other riders along the way, some obviously new. ALL had helmets. Was good to see...

As we were headed out of Mahlon Sunday morning after my knee meets rock incident , we passed 3 guys ,2 with helmets and the obvious hard ass wearing a hat backwards leading the other 2 without a helmet.

As we passed I said " bro you should really get a helmet" .. his response was " you should really get a life" , I said " it's not my life I'm concerned about I'm wearing a helmet"

Natural selection is obviously in place here.

Is a full face helmet worth the investment?

I normally ride fairly timid, always thinking safety first (I'm not the most aggressive rider in the world).

I bought a Uvex helmet with my bike at the bike shop (it was an 80 dollar helmet).

Is it worth the upgrade to a full? Do most bikers wear a full or just a top helmet?

unless you are riding a chair lift to the top of the trails you're riding, DO NOT wear a full face. everyone will laugh at you.

OK, I'm gonna take an unpopular stance here, folks.

Just so you know, I wear a helmet taking a crap, and own every kind of helmet from frisbee to snowboarding... I am a huge advocate. BUT... I do recognize others' rights to NOT wear a helmet and to NOT catch verbal abuse from those who ARE smart enough to wear helmets. Unless it's illegal, people have a right to be stupid. Besides, the world needs more organ donors.

But I, like some others CHOOSE to ride helmet-less in my neighborhood and in my local park.... That's my choice and MY RIGHT. And just like if I accept full responsibility for my own safety (and won't piss and moan if I do hit my head), I don't need (or want) to hear crap from anyone about it (except maybe my mother).

DO wear helmets.... it's the right thing to. But DON'T harrass people who don't.

Peace and Love to all (and Mom, I hope you're not reading this).

Agreed 100%. People need to stay out other people's business. I wear a helmet as well, and I make my kids wear one and explain why they should, and will do so until they are old enough to make adult decisions on their own, but if I choose not to wear one then it is my business and nobody elses. Everybody wants to tell everybody what to do and how to live. Enough please! What the hell is going on in this Country for crying out loud! Let people live how they want and they will let you do the same, at least that's the way it should go.
Next it will be a law to wear a bike helmet, more laws, more laws.

Go Harrass a guy riding with a matching lycra top and bottom, it's more rewarding😀

Bobby,

Your mother called.
She said if you were not going to wear your helmet, then for "God's sake, Bobby make sure you're wearing clean underwear".
😀

FUNNY, THAT'S MOM, EXACTLY!!!
(With her New England accent: "Awlways weah clean unda-weah, Bawb"... cuz ya neva know when you might find yawself in the hawspital...")

Saw a guy there yesterday on a nice silver/black Niner using a yellow baseball cap as a helmet. Funny part was that he was wearing some AMA t-shirt showing a guy jumping a quad with full gear on.

Riding a quad takes all the skill of sitting on a toilet.
Do you use a lid when crapping?

Its like a 'I"m with stupid shirt' and he paid $25 to tell you I shit when I ride. :getsome:

Bob,
Let's ride soon, I'm on Lymes pace and handicapped with small wheels that keeps my belly close to the ground. 😉 Ground affects for the sweet berms 😀.

Your efforts would be much more effective in the form of emails to local and state legistature. Until then, this is a rather moot point.

I agree with both of you that in a free country you SHOULD be able to choose for yourself. What you are missing is that we DON'T live in a free country. A-holes who don't take the proper precautions get hurt, and instead of taking the attitude of 'I was stoopid, I crashed, I had no helmet, I got hurt' they sue everyone because the place where they bonked their numb skull was allegedly too dangerous. your RIGHT to not wear a helmet comes with your BURDEN to accept responsibility for that choice. Unfortunately, too many people here in the good ole USA don't get that critical connection!

THEN THEY SUE, & RIDING GETS BANNED in the park for everyone.

SO...your stoopid peoples right to be an idiot and not wear a helmet in a park coupled with their refusal to accept responsibility for the results of their actions, prevents others from being free to do what they want :getsome::getsome:

+ us grown ups riding around with no helmet sets a bad example for our kids...and you KNOW if a kid falls and bonks their head somebody is getting sued....

Back to Keeping it simple: Wearing a helmet is SUCH A SIMPLE THING that prevents soooo many potential problems its beyond dumb not to.

was going to ride w/ the wife at 6 mile ...we get there she says i don't have a helmet...so rather than be that d bag w/ helmet riding w/ the hot chic w/o a helmet on ..so we went to canal...she ran over a snake almost lost control of her bike ...very funny to watch since she wasn't hurt...poor snake wasn't so lucky ...no helmet =dead snake?
