Gravel bike recommendations...

In all seriousness, I see the point of looking for a frame that supports larger tires if buying new. There are more options on the market now.

However, if the mission is more along the line of buy used / on a budget or continue using what I have then I'd think long and hard about actual use case vs future proofing because "maybe I'll need it some day."

I want to live somewhere where I need larger tires than the 40's that fit into my OG gravel bike. But the reality is that for where I live and ride 30-35mm strikes a good balance. Once a year when I'm on some unmaintained road in Rothrock SF wishing I had bigger tires ... oh yea, underbiking for a few miles. Or I'm on my MTB.
Agree with this. As tempted as I am to shop, I’m just fine on my 32s, whenever I do ride that bike

Agree 100%, lots of people fall into the category of buying a bike for the 1%. I can see the need for 40s and up in such a small
Percentage of what i want to ride it on and for true single track i have a mtb.
SoCal and Co is one of the few places i have ridden where i thought a big tire gravel bike would be awesome.

I’ve been eyeing gravel bikes for years. Literally. I thin I’ll pull the trigger sooner now just because I can fit 2.1s. That ability to ride into local single track and rip, then fall back onto Columbia trail on drop bars is very appealing

What did you end up getting?

I picked up a Pivot Vault from Halters. I got the one with AXS Transmission. Big ol MTB cassette in the back and a 40 in front. (EDIT 40 tooth chainring)

50mm Gravel Kings which I picked up from Halters. The bike came with 40s which just looked silly small when it has the clearance for 50s
