Going Long and Hard.

I think I have a new murder train photo to play with in Photoshop. 😀

It was cold and windy so I rode home. I might be interested enough to turn myself inside out in the Eddy class on one of these to see what I gotz.

Very nice ride. Here is my MTBNJ team colored bike from 10 years before mtbnj.com existent. This bike was stolen and I still want it back. There is nothing like a custom built steel frame.

Battenkill tune-up, long ride new bike break in, wheel/tire test!! I wanted to try out my blingin' wheels to see what they felt like on the dirt before I completely settled in on bringing the tubies. It's amazing how a big pair of 404's makes a bike look mean as all poop!!

Eric from the shop was gonna meet me at my crizzy at 7 so we could hit the RV/roubaix/tuesday night merged loop. He didn't show, he has a cold. I threw on the iPod and headed out. PS-If I haven't mentioned how good the new Born of Osiris is, I will again!! Sat up for a bit to see if Joe was gonna meet me on Washington Valley, again, no show, solo!!

Hit the standard RV loop and the when I came off Stanton Mountain I dipped back behind the buffalo farm and did the lower portion of my Roubaix loop.

This dude was eyeing me up. He must like blingy carbon wheels?

Bike felt amazing!! It's supple even with 404's on it. I'm gonna run these instead, the bike is much faster with them. Here's the loop...

I actually stayed in zone today. WOOHOO!!

Started to fade a bit at work. Late night, early start, long ride. The commute home was dreadfully slow. It my older son's B-Day so we were doing cake and having people over so I had to sorta boogie. Not happening. But at least when I got home there was cake!!

After the guests left I was fading hard when my wife reminded me I needed to change her wheels on her car. She dented 2 of them pretty bad so we're gonna throw my GTI wheels on it for now. Went outside and the took the 2 wheels off only to find the GTI wheels use a smaller head on the lugnut so the Toyota ones wouldn't fit in the rim. Plan B. I layed her dented wheels on the grass and found the biggest hammer I own. Commence beating until wheels are round(ish). Re-inflate. Put back on car. Tell her to we need to buy new wheels. I also reminded her how bad the condition of the car has gotten since she started driving it into Jersey City everyday. It was literally brand new when I bought my GTI and she took the Yaris. Now it's got 4 dented wheels, 2 hubcaps, 4 dented body panels, the passenger door barely opens. Holy crap!! My head nearly exploded, I went back inside and fell asleep on the couch around 8:30😀

Eric got this K'Nex roller coaster thing. He won't let me help because he wants to build it all himself. He was up this morning trying to finish it up. I think he's got another round when he gets home from school though. Here's the start yesterday...

Not apparent in this pic are the number of pieces in that plastic bag, it's like a K'Nex portal of some kind. Stuff keeps coming out of there and this thing is getting bigger and bigger...RUN!!

That is all for now.

-Jim.

Hell yeah son!!

Monday

Recovery day. Daddy do day. Blah. Poop to do.

Project number one was to run over to Lowes and get some shelving so I can finally clean up the basement for the boys. Not too bad of a project. While I was at it I ran some rope through my shelving in the bike area to anchor it to the beams. Just in case 2 little boys happen to run into it. We don't need 2 shelves worth of poop falling over into a pile of Sevens...

Made myself some lunch. One of my go to's. Asparagus!! WOOHOO!! It's on sale at the Stop n' Shop so I gots me a bunch.

When the boys got home me and Eric cruised out into Whitehouse in the bunny to pick up that bumper I found. The kid lives on my Roubaix loop. The Bunny went off-road. At first it was pretty cool, but the Bunny is literally 1.5 inches off the ground, so it pretty much rubbed on the ground the entire time. I think we even got some sparks!!

I just dropped the bumper over the euro one to check the fit. It's a bit lower than what I have one there now, it's gonna make the front end sit on the ground. Sweet:getsome:

I still have the black resto kit from when I did the rest of the car so it'll come back to life with a little elbow grease. I only paid $50 for it so if it sucks I could find someone else to buy it I'm sure.

Homework. The home shop is picking up steam. As expected I got a bunch of wheels right off the bat. It's sorta my specialty so I have a bit of a following when it comes to that stuff. I can take in about 6 wheelsets at a time for glue I think. Maybe 2 bikes at a time. Right now I have 1 bike, 2 frames, and 3 wheelsets. Today I based a pair of tires, and finished another set and mounted them, tomorrow I'll mount the other pair...

Rebuilding a pair of carbon Bonty wheels for the Sneez as well. We're going from black to white spokes and changing all the nipples because internal nipples suck and break. From my experience internal nipple wheelsets need to be rebuilt at least every other year, if you ride a lot, more.

Yes, I have the coolest and most custom truing stand ever😀

Here's the black...Blah...

FxCam_1301963147597.jpg

And the white...Still blah...A little too gaudy for my liking, but they're perfect for the Sneez!!

Mmmmm. I'm eating birthday cake!! Ok, I have to go finish that other wheel so...PEACE!!

-Jim.

Tip for fixing steel wheels.
2 hammers, one a ball peen. Put the ball end of the smaller hammer in the pocket of the dent and smash the other end of the hammer with your other hammer.
Straightens the dent out without nicking the wheel to death.

Should get a nice mastik headache working in that basement 😛

Those wheels are hideous.

I glued the tires upstairs in the dining room. There's a ceiling fan and a window so I saved some brain cells for now😀

Ted, the rims on those Bontys are so friggin' overbuilt that they're plenty strong, but I still don't trust them, especially considering that they've completely re-designed their wheels designs:hmmm:

SQUIRREL!!

Bingo! The redesign to a more traditional, dare I say "balanced", spoke pattern leads me to believe that bad things happen when a spoke pops. And I'm not talking about Flyweights in the Giro a la Contador, but normal sized people like Chris and I. 😀
