Going Long and Hard.

Monday

Longer ride on the MTB today with our very own Dr. Rob, aka Young Sexy Rob. We did my "go-to" D&R-6 Mile thing that I seem to do all too often, but not lately so it's ok. Felt nice to get in a 3+ hour ride in on the Seven. The wind made a few sections of the canal sting the legs a bit. Good time, good times. We got out just as the trails were starting to thaw, thank god, that place is terrible when it gets that 1/8" layer of mud everywhere.

On the way home I got like 50 texts from my wife saying I have to go pick my little guy because he's puking his brains out at school and I need to take him to the doctor. I skip eating and showering and just throw on some pants to run over there expecting complete chaos. Nothing. He's running around with the other kids like crazy. I say "He doesn't seem sick"...The bag of pukey clothes would suggest otherwise. I wrapped him in a blanket and covered the inside of the Bunny with another just in case he decided to let one rip. We got home and I was 100% convinced he was fine. Must've just had something disagree with him this morning, it happens.

Goofed around with the 8-string as per Mastah Shreddah's request. Instead of just blindly practicing modes I decided to run a loop in Garage Band to jam over. It's much nicer to practice when there's some sort of melodic element to it. I recorded some of it. You can watch it if you feel so inclined. Afterwards I started recording a cool poly-rhythmic thing that uses the low, LOW E as a pedal note. Need to learn how to work the drum thing in there so I can get some arrangements going. Anywho.

That is all.

Did you have to replace a hose on the fridgegon?

I like that D & R mtb run to 6 miles. A bunch of us Cranford guys passed the trail head at Bound Brook Sat. on a road ride to Hillsborough. I want to check this out, when I get my mtb back online I'm in. Hopefully within the next 2 weeks, I'll bug you to go again.

Not sure what the deal is yet with the refridegon. It had coolant leaking from the head which is never a great sign. I was waiting until the new year to drop it off to have it fixed but it had other plans😱

I do that ride fairly often so you'll have plenty of chances to jump in.

Tuesday

Commute into work on the MTB. Not very cold this morning but the wind was BRUTAL in a few sections. Mainly going up Stirling Road. I think I was doing like 3 mph standing. It was sorta silly. A point I'd like to mention about my "road" MTB set-up. There isn't one. I ride the fork wide-open and 25psi in my normal knobbies, exactly the way I ride it off-road. While most people don't get that, it helps out tremendously when you get back into the woods. You're overall pedal technique smooths out a bunch and you get more efficient, which in short, allows you to ride faster for longer with less energy, win win. And you don't need to buy a silly oval chainring to do it😉

More christmas time at work. For me anyway. I got 2 goodies. First is another piece of the road bike build. Same crank I been running, just sans BB30.

Then I scored another of these oldskool cable hangers on eBay!! SWEET!! I've had this saved as a search for 3 years, this is the first one that's come up for sale in that time. Brand new in the package😀

Being that Luke's thing is always about food, and terrible food at that, I thought I'd share a little bit of what my grub looks like throughout my base phase. This isn't what I eat everyday but it's similar. I like all the Amy's things so I swap them around, and Quarn patties are usually in the mix. Almost always a salad. Swapping out BBQ Corn Chips and Swedish Fish for fresh veggies for a few months helps me drop down into the 150's before race season hits. Like to point out that this doesn't include what I eat on the bike, that's it's own entity.

Finished Norm's murder death Taiwan bike. Rode it around town a bit and surprisingly didn't die. It actually works pretty good. I may not be getting a new cross bike after all. Rebuilt the SpongeBob PowerTap wheel also. The nipples were totally corroded, weird. I Dumond Tech'd the spoke threads and soaked all the new nipples in T-9 so they'll resist corrosion a little bit better, I hope.

Left work a tad early so I could hustle home to register for Battenkill!! The site like froze for a couple minutes and I thought I was screwed!! Got in though. Sweet. This will be the first race I do that is actually like the stuff I like to train on, ROUBAIX!!

I think that's all, time to start wrapping presents, christmas is coming up FAST!!

-Jim.

Jeez, those things look terrible. I'm totally asking for trouble riding that in the rainy season.

Death bike rules!

The veggie dip is a bit dangerous though.

Your building a seven right??

As much as I would like to, and have thought about it, I decided against another Seven. 3 Sevens in the stable is kinda silly, Freddy would never let me hear the end of it. The multi-Seven ownership club is pretty stacked already between Joe M and The Sneez, they have more Sevens in the basement than Seven does in their showroom. And that's an actual fact!! The new road bike is all class and very traditional, and SUPER sexy.

The Joule sucks monkey balls, don't waste your money!! I'm using an Edge 500, I like it but I may look into getting the 800. We got one in the shop and I was playing with it and it's pretty bad-ass. Son.

-Jim.

I have used the Joule on the road, seems fine. I like the TSS feature. Although setting up the FTP and updating was an issue on a Windows 7 machine, had to use XP. The zones seem a more flexible on the Garmin and settable on the unit instead of the PC software. Never used a Garmin, just the PT head units. Except for no GPS (I know where I am going) why is the Garmin better. Not sure I would use any $500 plus head unit off road any way. I break things 😛

That looks like a very speedy ride for sure. I think my head would explode if my HRM showed anything like those numbers. Good reminder I need to add Harshorne back into my rotation.

I'm just a fat lil cat2 racer...most people wouldn't show up if they saw who was going.

I must mention I was dropped 25min into the ride pedaled my ass off and saw them waiting in the upper lot. I was allowed to get back on the death train so we rode for a while more, then was dropped again...lucky for me or unlucky for me I found the group again (3rd time) and we rode the rest of Hartshorne and over into Huber where I was dropped again...good thing 2 others were left behind, caught on with them and finished the day. Shortly after all this the gorilla's came back to the lot and we took off for a cool down ride along the fire roads around the park. It was an awesome ride

That is one good bit about Hartshorne is that the trail system does loop unto itself, so you will tend to run into most folks in a single ride. 🙂

Damn son!! Your HR was PEGGED:getsome:

Here's what the ride was like from my end...

My legs were pretty shot today, especially after this ride yesterday. Nearly 4 hours at Tempo down the canal on the MTB. That hurt!! Here's the file and a some pics from that ride...

And we'll go back one more day. Here's a short loop at Chimney Rock Christmas Eve. Nuggles was on crack or something and ended up pushing the ride a little too hard and dropping everyone in the process. He's young. Probably won't ride his bike for another month now😉

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/60618974

I'll fill in the details tomorrow. I'm gonna try to ride but the snow seems pretty deep so I don't expect to get very far.

-Jim.

Bontrager RXL's. I was thinking of getting some black Easton stuff now that I'm not a Fisher poster boy😀

-Jim.

I was hurt at the start and Pushed waaaay hard. I'm looking at these sunday rides to break me and so far so good. Eventually I'll settle in and my HR will follow, I'm glad I have the GPS so I can see what's what.

Monday

Snow!! Woohoo. I uh, slept in until I think after 10, which is absurd for me. Chilled with the family on the couch for a very large if not not all of the day today. I didn't go out to shovel the car until after 6pm. In our development it doesn't make any sense to dig out until the plows come through or they'll just bury you right back in. Blah.

I played my geetar and my new Mario game😀

I also got a new sound system for the computer so I can rock out more "louder":getsome:

That is all. No bike. Bite me.

-Jim.
