Going Long and Hard.

Happy New Year.

Stuffed my broken ass foot into my road shoe and hit the club’s NYD Ride. Figured it’s close enough that if something felt bad I could just go home. Turns out after a few minutes of throbbing pain, my foot went numb and it was great 😂

Ride was a little slow and I was dressed for constant movement so after the halfway regroup I rode off the front and put in some work. Fitness is very high at the moment. I’ll have to do a test on the trainer but my 20-Minute is hovering ~ 400 watts. Being down 25lbs makes that number somewhat respectable, I might even make it a climb in front one day 😂

Gym Day today. I bought one of those wheels from Uncle Bezos to help with my lower back. Only 6 and change weeks out from Alaska so the deadlifts go away. No sense risking an injury for a minimal amount of gain at this point.

Saturday.

We still have to hang around so the new cat can get used to us so indoors today for a quickie. I set up Zwift and connected my poop to see if it’s more fun with people or not, figure I can cancel it after a month or so anyway.

Did leg presses and extensions to warm up the legs before the trainer. Being it takes me so long to warm up on the bike I’m testing to see if this actually works.

60 minutes in Sweet Spot to confirm numbers are around Bkool. Seems to be the same. Or close enough. Confirmation that fitness is coming on in a big way, the work is definitely paying off.

Started doing prep for Alaska Drops. Trying to do this as Vegan as possible. At least with the things I can control. Sending myself camp meals and trying to find easily packable sources of dense calories besides Almonds.

The Primal jerky stuff is GOOD! A little messy, but GOOD!

Wednesday.

Gym in the morning for a quick session.

Then I Zwifted the MTBNJ Zwift Ride, which was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. With the road becoming more and more of a shit show in recent years, I find myself sort of opening up to the idea of being indoors. Like yes, it sucks, but Tesla Drivers suck more so…Who knows?

I am disappointed that I was the only one in the MTBNJ, MTB-nj, to be on a mountain bike, even if it’s fake and doesn’t matter.

Getting my ass kicked this week.

SS Commute Monday was nice but cut through the woods to make it more climby and hard.

Woke up early Tuesday morning to jump into the Zwift TT Cup. Warmed up for 30-40 minutes, didn’t realize they kicked me out of the field I was signed up for. Did the TT Effort as if I were doing the event just to get it in my legs.

So close to hitting my old numbers from when I was actually doing this as my main discipline. Later I realized they booted me because Zwift Suggested the B Group for me but it tops out at 690 and my Score is 698 so…

I woke up early again on Wednesday to do it again!! Legs were definitely sore from Tuesday but that usually works better for me. Same warmup but this time it was in that weird pre ride box with the countdown, which you don’t get credit for I realized.

They go off in 15 second intervals just like a real TT so there’s motivation to put out effort.

I went so, so, deep. HR over 160bpm which is like 250 for you XC Types. I caught my 15-second man and was about 20 seconds behind the leader for the 1st 5-Miles. Second lap I started to go cross eyed and just put my head down in the aero bars praying for someone to kill me. Maximum effort.

Lost by 13 seconds in my field, 2nd overall on the day. Felt good until I checked the results for the series and saw that I’m 10-Minutes behind 1st place because real athletes put out over 500 watts for this same effort and they’re 140lbs. So I can kill myself and get annihilated during each of these, or, I put I weight 300lbs and terrorize the B field 🤷

Also, gym twice this week. Including this morning because I can’t feel my legs.

Sort of long ride. My wife is home sick so that always adds like 6 hours of doing nothing to my day 🤷

Spending today buttoning up my ITI Drops. Don’t want to win worst drop of the year again so I actually weighed everything and am sending them out 2 weeks earlier. See? Public humiliation does make society a better place 😂

Also, I finally got into London Edinburgh after 3 attempts. Absolutely stoked as it was in my bucket list before Paris-Brest but is significantly harder to get into. So, it’s gonna be another one of those flogging myself through bi-weekly Brevets type of season.

I’ve been posting in the Not BIYF thread and not here but I’ll post some poop here. We are 1 week out from ITI start. As of right now there’s almost no snow on course. I’m going to run the same setup as last year because it could snow while we’re out there, it’s Alaska.

Here’s my bike. I’m bought a new rear bag from JayP because he’s my friend and started his own company, represent.

I’ve not sure what gearing to run on such a fast course, currently riding a 32x17 which could be OK. My other wheels have a 20t. 32x20 might suck the first day on the river? IDK, I’ll know more after the racer’s meeting later today, whatever I pick will be wrong at some point 😂

Taper started today. Yesterday was my last 5-hour day. Every weekend this month has been long so the legs should be no issue at all.
