Going Long and Hard.

Drops are packing and en route. Sending outa couple of actual meals so I can eat in Rohn. That’s the Bratwurst Tent Checkpoint and the last time I was there I could only eat raw Ramen Noodles, which is not enough calories coming off Rainy Pass FYI. Also gonna send out some oatmeal even though I’m not bringing a stove, it’s easy enough to get hot water at checkpoints and bring it along in a thermos for later…

No stove? I thought water boil was kinda a reasonable emergency option.

Pretty solid week. 2 days in the gym. Commute on Elsa with no pics…

Lunch Ride w/Pinky.

Then another Perm Sunday sans flats on the Allez. Swapped back to Tubeless Rubinos with standard tubes for now. Heavy AF but ain’t flat.

Bonus Day.

Loaded Elsa for a proper shakedown ride. Just need to swap the Dilli 5’s on at some point before I leave, maybe winterize the rear hub when I swap the cogs. Ran a 30x18 today, which is totally fine for breaking trail for 3.5 hours, but ITI is a whole other beast. My plan is to run a dingle 20/22 and swap to the low cog after Finger Lake…which is all hike a bike anyway so maybe it doesn’t even matter.

Will pull the BB today and thankfully, I’m running a single speed so I’m done ✅
Jiminy Christmas , if your quads get any bigger they’ll wear through your top tube.

Enjoying a bit of a taper week. Just putting the ducks in a row and focusing on having some fun to keep my mind off Sunday’s start…

I did go for a short 10 mile ride to play in the snow at Rutgers. Bike feels so amazingly dialed. 30x20 was cake breaking trail in 5-6” of fresh snow. Need to wash the bike again because it was muddy in a few sections so that’ll be Monday. Also need to swap spacer on my crank because it rubs a little.

Today was the pre-race meeting but nothing has really changed except the finish is and the 2nd checkpoint. Instead of Yetna and Skwentna being checkpoints, Bentalit in between the 2 is being used. That’s where I stayed the 1st night in ‘19.

Also new for this year is getting our gear back from McGrath. The Cargo Company only flies once a week so if I lollygag too much I’ll be back in Anchorage for over a week with no bike. I didn’t book a flight home because you can’t predict when how anything will go once you leave the start line…
