Going Long and Hard.

Turns out I actually did pull something a couple weeks ago in my lower back. I honestly thought it was just a bruise from the new Kayak but it hasn’t changed at all so I went to see Dr Mike and get sorted out. He bent me in half a dozen different ways and passed me off to his PT guy for a stretching routine. While my core and lower back have become strong over the past couple years, I don’t stretch. I’m old and need to stretch.

I bruised a Kidney Kayaking and have been sort of lollygagging a bit this week.

During my Commute home Sunday my tire started rubbing on the bottom of my fork. Stopped and let some air out, loosened the wheel and dropped it a bit to make it home, looked like a bubble in the tire?

Monday morning I swapped on a new tire and it was better but looked like my wheel had a hop in it. Rode to work and it seemed fine.

Trued the wheel at work and it was dead on so wasn’t really sure what was going on. Turns out the rim started separating on the inside from braking and was splitting apart. Stole the shop VadoSL to ride home.

Ordered a new front rim and put the Trispoke on for the meantime.

Reminder that Rusty2 is absolutely absurd. I’m planning to use this bike for the Major Taylor ride in 2 weeks because it just makes sense.
Delaminating carbon rims, they still haven't fixed this in 2024? Just noticed you only run a front brake, so Rusty is fixed gear? Bonkers for a road bike any who

Major Taylor New Hope Weekend.

Weekend started with a social ride and picnic on Saturday all right down the street at Johnson Park!! When I got there someone was having bike issues so I was screwing around with their bike. The group ride actually left me behind so I had to chase like crazy to catch up. Was riding fixed so I couldn’t really go super fast and it took like 15 miles to catch on.

Going up Zion I caught a slow leak and went to change it when we regrouped at the top. Guess what? I forgot my little 15mm wrench and couldn’t take off my wheel. Yay!! We put air in it and I boogied to try to get down into town to find a wrench, unfortunately, tire was soft and I went over some tracks and completely ripped the tire because I was too lazy to take off the stupid Turbo Cottons.

Wife rescued me in Hillsborough and I went home to properly fix my bike for Sunday. Missed the picnic portion but I didn’t want a repeat on Sunday.

Put the Hutchinson Challengers back on, made sure my tool kit was proper, changed out the rear cog to a 16 to ensure the pace stays social.

Sunday. The main group left from Newark but I did the Piscataway to New Hope and back option so I wouldn’t have to deal with going to Newark. Not that I need another Century or anything, I’ve done like 4 dozen already this year 😂

Anywho. This ride started off absolutely ridiculous. 30+ mph. With the 44x16 I was spinning at 120rpm just to sit in the B Group. After like 15 or 20 miles I dropped back with Jakefromjakefarm and we started a C+ group. We we about halfway in the group just out straight cheesin’

The ride back was mostly just the 2 of us. We sorta left after the big group and before the slow group. Was just a fun ride, no efforts or anything, cruise control.

Rode back home from the park and took this pic of the Weis, which was hands down the talk of the weekend. Amazing with 100 or so $10,000 bikes on a ride, the weird steel fixie steals the show…

That was a huge group ride!
I was engulfed by it on Wertzville road for about 7 miles.
Incredible weather for it.
