Going Long and Hard.

Very best of luck to you. I was surprised to see that you were back to work so soon. Take it easy and listen to the PT.

Now it will be a different goal, a goal of just stepping onto the cross bike with a number on my back. Taking part in the one aspect of cycling I love more than anything else. The pain I'll need to go through in the next month will dwarf any training I've ever done. But if I can reach my goal of just showing up, it'll be a greater success than standing on any podium...

The pain starts tomorrow:getsome:

-Jim.

Jim, you're an inspiration. I've seen you encourage people who are 'the least likely to complete a lap' into racing and surprising everyone, including themselves. I've seen you kick butt and fly down courses and podium and you've been positive, helpful and friendly to everyone in between.

Now that you've been (literally)slapped to the ground, winning takes on a whole new meaning and just being able to show up at a race this season becomes the prize. Though I'd expect nothing else from you, a lesser man wouldn't even try.

I believe you will be there. And I'll be there too, just so I can run along the tape and scream at you to move your sorry ass.

Good to hear the progress. I'll be there for your warm-up trail rides when your ready. You should think about racing DH. Being banged up and having metal inside your body is a prerequisite. You'll totally fit in with the crew - and now there making 29er DH bikes.

See you out there soon.

Great attitude Jim. Like J said surprised your back to work too.
Take it slow, don't try to rush the PT. Let it take it course and finish it.

Really cool to read, how you have been improving, and healing as fast has you have...

"Over? Did you say over? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! And it ain't over now. Cause when the goin' gets tough...... the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!" 😀

Go get em Jim!!!!! :getsome: :getsome: 😀

The pain starts tomorrow:getsome:

Good luck Jim!

I went to ProCare after my shoulder surgery and all I can say is that they are great. My injury was no where near as severe as some of the people I had seen come in there, or yours for that matter, but it was awesome to watch them progress and get going again. Joe and his staff are incredible, I was there for the good part of 2008 and I don't think I have a bad thing to say about anyone there.

Listen to them, tell them your background and where you want to be back at and they will help you get there. Good luck!

Oh yeah, enjoy the massages!😀

I saw jim doing one handed push ups at High Gear yesterday.
With his bad arm.

Oh yeah, enjoy the massages!😀

Thanks everyone!! I started PT today and learned a little bit more about the "why" my arm doesn't move. I thought it was just tight muscles from non-use and they'd just get stretched and VIOLA!! Not quite I found. Many of the muscles in/around my shoulder, back, and right side had (atrophied?) over the last 9 weeks and in particular my tricep is pretty much MIA. The joint itself will go through the motions if I or someone else pushes it around, there's just no muscles around to make it do it on it's own. I've been given some resistance exercises and whatnot that will help target specific muscle groups, some of them are kinda cool, and they all hurt😱

On a side note, I have a moment to share that was very niiiice. My PT guy is a young dude, at the time I was in, there was another guy he was also working on. In came the next patient. A very "easy-on-the-eyes" 20-something year-old brunette. She was wearing a knee thing and those little jogging shorts with the words on the butt. You know the ones. The girl she was working with had her doing all these stretches etc. So. All us guys were doing our things and talking when I looked over to see the young lady bent over in front of us with her hands flat on the ground. Niiiice. All 3 of us stopped talking and took a "guy moment". We all looked at each other and smiled. When I looked back towards the girl her PT person winked at me. We got caught son!! Snap!! I think all 3 of us turned bright red but the girl never caught it, thank god!! That was fun. Sorry my life isn't more exciting. I'm sure all the old married guys can at least see some humor in this😀

PT exercises and bike ride (sorta)

So I've been doing my "homework" PT exercises 3x a day like I'm 'sposed to, concentrating a slight bit more on the ones that will get my cycling movements back. Today I also spent about 30 minutes on my road and then MTB bikes just riding around my courtyard trying to stretch out my shoulder. I can't reach my hoods on the road bike, so I can't shift or brake. Looks like I'll be riding the SuperFly on the road for a little bit.

On another note, I've been watching my diet much more closely, and plan to return to doing my core workouts in the am. So my schedule will be 30 minutes of core, 1 hour of PT, and 60+ minutes on the bike commuting to/from work. We'll see how that works out for a few weeks or so before I return to full-on training mode again.

On another, other note, I've started rebuilding the Seven for cross season. I got a fresh decal set to match the Death Row Velo scheme. Got some Hope Pro3 road hubs coming from England, they'll get laced to Mavic Relex CDs, some Rival stuff, TRP Euro-X carbon brakes, brandy new Tufo Flexus Primus tubies, Gore cables, etc, etc...Hopefully the parts will all be here by the end of the week😀

New TRP canti posts...

Not sure if any of the cross guys have caught this. The new TRP Euro-X pads now have adjustable toe. It's a pretty clever design that's very easy to set-up. Of course I threw away the stock pads for some must have Swiss Stops😉

as always you have the fly cross gear! question about the rims. what is the deal with reflex cd's? how are they different from the regular reflex?

The CD's use a harder coating and resist brake wear much better than the standard ones, especially in the mud and whatnot...And they're a dark gray instead of silver, and that's cross-tastic😀

Joe, pretty sure I'm not showing up to the last race. It's just not that important for me...
