Go visit Asheville and help their economy! 😊

Saw this and thought it was pretty interesting to get a scope of how large of an area was affected.

Even Seth is in an area that basically didn't get hit hard and he was trying to show what happened near him for clicks.
Ok so it wasn’t just me. I checked out of that video after he was making a big deal about lots of debris (leaves and some sticks) on his deck…

That plus water in my basement was basically my experience and I'm practically embarrassed to say anything about it since people have lost everything or died.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he probably posted that before finding out how bad this is.

Huh? He was checking on his property and neighbors and feared the worst happened which is understandable. He seemed relieved that's all that happened....He wasn't making a big deal whatsoever.

People always with the cynicism. Must be tough to live like that.

I think it's just the weird YouTube thing where you think it's an actual video with knowledge but it's just an edited video of someone rambling for 10 minutes. It's the same video as his drive home with a Ford Lightning.

Not that it's bad, it's just that it's an edited video with enough anticipation for the possibility of things turning out bad. Like a reality show with the formula to just keep your attention enough.

Just saw this walkthrough of the main road through Bar Cave, NC

That's fair, keeping the viewer's attention is the goal. I personally never got the vibe he was in imminent danger or trying to convey that but to each their own. He also said several times he made out incredibly lucky. Of all the shitty youtubers out there, Seth seems like a pretty normal dude just trying to help the bike community anyway he can.

He's also using that video to raise $50k (over $20k so far) to go to hurricane relief so I find it pretty jaded to blanket criticize using his platform to raise awareness to people that would never see it otherwise.

If you scroll through any storm related shorts/vids on fb or ig, there is a LOT to see. I’ve watched hundreds and more keep popping up. One of the last was a woman that jumped out of her house as it was floating downstream. Someone jumped in to save her, but I’m guessing there are plenty of not so lucky videos. Amazing what a world we live in these days with technology and being able to see everything.

I have been off the media and I’m partially still off it due to personal reasons, so my perspective maybe off here, but it doesn’t seem this disaster has gathered enough attention nationwide or from the government. Is it just my perception?

It hasn't garnered the attention it should. We need to focus that time on giving things away to people who haven't earned it, and on P Diddy. These good American citizens can just suffer on their own.

They were interviewing a local resident on the radio news this morning, sounds like at least some are feeling that way. The resident said that he feels like they are all one celebrity headline away from being completely forgotten.

My mother in NJ texted asking if I saw the news. I said yeah, it's pretty bad. Turns out she was talking about Iran firing rockets at Israel...

And I get it, it's kind of out of site, out of mind. When in NJ, Katrina was interesting but I didn't have a personal connection to anyone actually in the neighborhoods destroyed. I never went to New Orleans until after Katrina so I never had that feeling of knowing a place I was familiar with was severely impacted. Every time Florida got hit with another Hurricane, did I ever really pay much attention?

Even with Sandy the destruction wasn't everything swept away, more of just underwater.

Yep, news of these huge destructive storms are going the way of "other events" I won't specifically mention that are increasingly common but we aren't doing much to stop. Ida was the first storm that impacted me personally and it messed me up pretty good. I still don't sleep great when it's raining hard.

You get quite desensitized to the news of another town being washed away when it happens twice a summer in VT now. Asheville won't be the last unexpected town to be wiped off the map. It's horrifying.

I mean...is the above just disinformation? We have friends in Asheville that I was able to text with on Sunday. We have not heard from them since. More than likely these people are trying to GTFO because they have been stranded for days. Do they think people are driving from 100s of miles around to...gawk? Really? I mean this is just assuming the people are the worst. To use your own words from another post, it must be hard to live your life that way.

Maybe everyone is living their own struggle and just because they're in YOUR way doesn't mean they're doing something wrong.

It has a Wiki so I assume it's a real thing that happens, if it's happening down there I have no idea.
