Frenchtown Preserve Conditions

Trails frozen and crunchy for the most part.

Thanks to whoever took care of the tree across blue.

Small tree down across Green. (The other tree across green mentioned in previous post is still there)

I was mistaken about the log over with the rotten ramps and sketchy go around. It is still there. Just not where I thought it was. It's on the unmarked trail right along the ravine that parallels the green horse trail.

We call this trail the "Googlymon" trail on account of the mask on the tree near the bottom on the standing dead cedar. This monstrosity has been there for years and looks like it may need a rebuild, though I ride it regularly still.

Rode here this afternoon. 41º. Trails were firm. Just a couple of muddy spots. Trails handle freeze/thaw well for a central Jersey Park.

Hooray. The tree across "Kingwood Trail" (that is the name on Trailforks) is cleared. Kudos to who dun it.

Also someone cut a fresh new kicker on the "Yellow Horse" trail that runs downhill toward Trenton Ave. That trail already has a bunch of log overs/kickers with go arounds. No go around for this new one though. Maybe it will develop just to the right.

Seems to me like Trailforks has been updated. All the trails I know of are there now. A section on Blue that didn't exist has been removed. Naming is horrible.
this is the trail with the bike mounted to the tree at the very top. It's appropriately referred to as "Trash Valley".

This is one of the best obstacles in the Preserve. I hit it in the uphill direction every ride, along with the rocky outcropping at the bottom of this trail. Right now the edges are still solid. I will bolster it in the next week.

If removed, things will get ugly 😉

I'm usually going up hill there too. Definitely needs some work on the ramps. I might be able to ride it then.

Haven't been here in a while. Good to be back and happy to see trails are burned in and riding great. Tree down in Green between red and blue...with some over growth.

Fun drops on the trail that starts in field/ends at yellow.

So happy to have this close to home. Thanks to those who are keeping it clear.

I guess that one is "Trash Valley".

We had a fairly localized microburst in Frenchtown along Kingwood Ave yesterday evening. Please be careful out on the trails, there are likely lots of downed trees. I’ll assess after I clean up my own yard.

@audionerdio Glad you found this site. This is pittstown Sherry. Hit me up if you are ever need help. I'll continue to do what I can. My mushrooms keep getting stolen....so that fun has stopped.
Like wise, let me know i can help. I'm in Pittstown as well. Went for a walk with the family Sunday and everything looked pretty good. Thanks

Shame about your mushroom. I found it moved to the bench overlooking the field once and moved it back to where it was. It was there for a few more rides then disappeared.

Got a few big trees cleared this morning that were across the trails near the field/creek. There are still a few on the trail near the HSB parking lot. Might be able to hit those in the next couple of days. Please let me know if y’all see any others that will need a big saw.

Yes, was there yesterday and was impressed by how well the trails were trimmed. Thanks to the clipper / brush hog operator for this!

I'll note this does not include some parts of the Green trails that were not trimmed and/or only partially cleared. Seems it is the usual that these are not included, so I know what I'm getting into when I ride those trails.

Also, some of the overhangs are too low, at least for me. Need to be careful. Being 6'4" on an extra large frame, they are a problem for me. I flatten low to the bike but misjudge or don't have enuf room and hit my helmet twice yesterday (second time was pretty hard). I cleared the first by hand but couldn't clear the second one (no saw). There were several others that I barely fit under.

6’4” here as well. I sit on the top tube, chest on the bars - still tough for some of them.

I’ve been out of town, but last time climbing up Blue (I think) by the ravine, I saw a widow-maker hanging above that big leaner. I need something long to dislodge it.
