Frenchtown Preserve Conditions

Rode out there tonight. Lots of footprints, some human, mostly not. Saw some ski tracks. Laid down some good fatty tracks with a couple of friends. It’s slick getting up and in, slow rolling once you are but so much fun. I would advise against any skinny tires right now as it won’t be much fun on account of how slippery it is. Even with the fatty, still had some hiking.

Rode out there tonight. It’s a real mix. There are a couple of trees down, both on Blue. Can get around both with some creativity. Chris was with me so he’ll probably get those cleared momentarily. Someone rode yesterday with a plus tire and that left some ruts that are now frozen. No biggie, just be aware of the frozen tire channels. They’ll get smoothed out soon enough. There are some icy spots, some on treacherous corners, but for the most part, it’s status quo; a few low hangers, a few potential eye-gougers, some debris left on the ground. Temps today/tonight have the trails frozen again so no real slime anywhere. 3 fat tires in the crew tonight and one skinny. Skinny tire was doing just fine. I would imagine the snow/freezing rain in the morning will completely change things however.

Did a bit of a ride in the preserve today and the trails were pretty good. A few muddy/wet spots but not too bad. A lot of debris has come down with all the wind but nothing major that I saw. Dipped down to the trails next to the river where there were a few trees down on the up-stream end of the single track. Finished it up with an americano in town. Beautiful day out today.

Cleaned up what could . Some leaners and low hangers throughout the park.

Cleared blue up to the end of map shown, see pic big one down @ stop on map. ( First crossing green trail.) I cleared what I could but didn't have big enough saw. Got rid of some hangers and fallen trees on beginning.

I entered the Frenchtown Preserve from Frenchtown Commons today and I started to follow the yellow trail east toward Horseshoe Bend Road but there are two fallen trees on the yellow trail a short distance from Frenchtown Commons that I couldn’t get past.

Chris and I got out last weekend in the rain to cut some of the green trail. Only able to get about 1/2 mile worth but it was cut& drop so be careful riding Green from southern end of Kiosk to edge of field. Might be some thorns looking for your tires. Adjacent farmer said he’d come through with the brush hog when it dries out enough and take care of the cut&drop.

All the singletrack is primo aside from the foot-per-day hangers.
