Formula 1 - 2024

Yep, I liked the atmosphere in general admission better. I have looked at going to some of the US races but I am finding the total cost to be much higher than going to the European races. The hotels in US are jacking up prices to double or more than their normal prices and the added cost of rental car kills the deal.
Yeah. One of my customers has gone to Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and a bunch in Europe. Said all those trips were cheaper than the US races he’s gone to.

Though he did mention that he hired a helicopter for day two at one of the euro races because the train situation was a disaster.

I just checked the hotel prices around Austin airport for Oct10 to 14 vs 17 to 21st per night. Prices listed is in Euro, cannot figure out how to make Google Maps show me the prices in USD while in Amsterdam. The second number is for Grand Prix weekend. I wouldn’t consider any of the hotels to be high end. The amount of mark up is huge for the weekend.

Microtel - 178/426
Hampton Inn - 191/623
Aloft - /530(GP)
Studio6 - 152/461
Home2 Suite - 184/731
Quality Inn - 126/
Holiday Inn Express - 196/724

Aren't admission prices much higher in the US too?

While looking at the hotel prices I realized that my Dutch GP trip (flight, hotel, general admission tickets, public transportation tickets to/from hotel to track) was cheaper than just hotel cost for COTA using the cheapest hotel from before. Also, considering that August is considered tourist season.

Based on that I cannot see myself attending any of the US GP anytime soon.

Let’s see

Let’s see 4hrs sitting in traffic in high heat vs 30 minute helicopter ride that gives you a good view of the whole track looking down and surrounding area. I would sign up for that if I can afford it 😂

me too, but then i couldnt afford it hence 'must be nice' (to be able to afford that)

You and me both. The “need” vs “want” logic in my brain would kick in and it would be quickly put in the “want” bucket. Attending the Grand Prix was already a “want” that was full filled so no way I could add another “want” on top of that. doing something like that at a moments notice. I would have gotten out of the car stopped at a place that sold cold water bottles and a large head covering and started walking which I actually enjoy doing when I am vacation.

For some reason I cannot walk and enjoy at home.

My airfare, 3 Day GA ticket and split camper pass for 6 of us, was like $1500 all in to attend, just for me, not a family of 4. I also had a discount code to reduce the tickets to like $400 and not including food/booze incidentals. If I didn't have friends quasi local, I would agree, its a lot to make it a destination. We called hotels the moment the date was released for the LVGP and even downtown LV, we were blown away at hotels being $1000 a night at places we've stayed at regularly when we go.

The first year we went we to the USGP stayed in a hotel downtown Holiday Inn I think and took the free shuttle to the race, which was a slow painful on the way back, was slightly cheaper, but overall not by much.

Stumbled across this while walking from Louvre towards Champs Elysee. They had the doors open to the lobby area.

Congratulations to Charles and Ferrari pulled off a brilliant one stop.

I was traveling back home yesterday and have not watched the race yet. Is it worth watching?

Yes.
Monza is my favorite track. As the “temple of speed” and all of the history there it would be a crime to take it off the schedule.
It’s a bucket list item to be able to tour the track and walk on the oval and think of all the legends that have raced there.
I’m happy that Ferrari finally got their shit together and didn’t screw up LeClerc’s strategy.
I’m pretty sure the Monza tifosi look at the orange army and say “that’s cute”

What a great race and win for Oscar. His duel with Charles was outstanding. I enjoyed the battle at the end between Charles, Carlos and Checo until the incident.

Lando's drive was very good and him playing the team game to slow Checo down helped Oscar greatly.

As a Red Bull fan I was disappointed in the outcome, but credit to both McLaren and Ferrari team and drivers for delivering. I am 99% sure the constructor's championship fight is between McLaren and Ferrari, with McLaren the favorites. Red Bull are not going to win it this year with only one car scoring points on regular basis. Even that one car is struggling to finish high up.

George has got to be the luckiest driver around. He picks additional points when the front runners crash out of the race.

I had expected couple of yellow/virtual/safety cars during the race but until the end the race was well judged by all the drivers. Pretty impressed with the two rookies in Colapinto (sp) and Bearman. Good point hauls for Williams.

Definitely some of the best racing of the season.

Still not sure what to make of Sainz/Perez at the end there. Looked like they both just slowly drove into each other.
