I found the season way too long and kind of tailed off watching after Singapore timeframe and started spending more time outside.
Some surprising driver moves for me in 2025 but really looking forward to the rookie's competing next year. It's unfortunate that Franco will be missing. It did not help that he had multiple crashes later in the season, hopefully we will see him as mid-season replacement or in 2026.
I like Checo a lot but boy he made it very difficult to root for him. I think RedBull made a financial decision to keep him when they signed him early in the season especially with Carlos Slim (TeleMex) sponsorship coming up for renewal. If TeleMex had signed on the dotted line Checo would have stayed with RedBull because the prize money difference between 1st and 3rd in constructors would have been made up with that sponsorship. When TeleMex did not sign on and RedBull went with ATT Checo's career with RedBull was over. He also did not help himself with multiple crashes that added up and hit the budget hard.
As for Lawson, I think the goal that RedBull might have set for him is to finish 8th or higher in drivers standings behind, McLaren, Ferrari, George, Max and play blocker for Max. He also, needs to consistently make Q3. As for choice between Yuki and Lawson, I do not think there was much to choose from espeically considering the experience between them and time delta. Yes, Yuki is faster in qualifying but he makes way too many errors during the race and is not consistent enough.
RedBull car had a narrow optimal setup window, which did not help either drivers.
Where do I start with McLaren. They won the constructors but boy they blew it with drivers championship with pit wall mistakes and Lando not being consistently maximizing his pole starts. I am still waiting to hear about why McLaren changed their DRS wings if they were legal. Was this similar to the Ferrari engine deal from 2018/19 with FIA?
Ferrari are going to regret letting Carlos go. On current form he is better than Lewis. I think they also, made way too many pit wall mistakes. The clarification that they had asked about flexible wings and the lack of clarity from FIA set them back in mid-season development but boy they were strong later half of the season.
Where do I start with Mercedes. That car has even narrower window than the Red Bull RB20. If the track temp's were low Mercedes was fast otherwise it was a bouncing kangaroo. George did well this year to maximize where he could. Lewis is a great driver but I think he no longer enjoys driving. If what I had read in the news about Lewis asking to retire the car a couple of times in the races is correct it was painful to read. I understand that the car is difficult to drive but man at least put in the effort. There are a lot of folks who worked on the car for you and it wasn't that both drivers were struggling to drive the car.
The surprise teams for me were Haas and Alpine after changes were made.
Aston were no where this year. Let's see how much they improve next year with arrival of Newey but I think Aston is not going to see much improvement before summer break. Not exactly, sure what Lawrence Stroll's goals are. If he is serious about winning he needs two drivers that can get regular points with occasional podiums and with Lance in the 2nd seat they are fighting with one hand tied behind their backs. They have a good reserve driver in Drugovich (sp?).
As for FIA I have lost all respect for them with the inconsistent rulings, fines, penalties. One week it's a 5sec penalty and the next it's 10sec with penalty points applied. Aborted start, where the front rows drivers took off for second formation lap (Brazil) creating safety issue for marshals (after Lance Stroll) goes off on the first formation lap, get's a slap on the wrist and a small fine but being out of the pit box get's a 5sec penalty. Same with swearing. If you are going to enforce the rules about swearing (it does not bother me much, heard it plenty of times but I understand FIA's stance) both Charles and Max should have gotten the same community service penalty and the decision for Charles only getting fine shouldn't have taken a week to make and only reason I think it was even done was because Max complained. Alonso penalty in Australia where George crashed and Max's one place grid drop in Qatar, what was that about? If Max impeded George it should have been automatic three place grid penalty.
FIA also need to make a decision on having full time stewards and mandate that stewards aren't allowed to be pundit's either. I am totally biased here but Johnny Herbert has no business being a steward and providing opinions on drivers especially when you are a spoke person for betting company. I see conflict of interest in his role and some of his decisions as steward (Alonso, Max,
Race of the Year - Brazil, the rain really changed the order and this is where the pit wall really made a huge difference along with the drivers surviving in the rain.
Drive of the Year - Max, Esteban and Pierre in Brazil (all three played a waiting game and made sure that they stayed on track), Charles in Abu Dhabi (if luck had gone Ferrari and Charles way Ferrari would have won the WCC with out the grid penalty and Charles time getting deleted due to track limits). Lando's Dutch Grand Prix drive which I got to see in person at the track. Max, George and Lando's drive in Montreal, plus the spectacular save from Valterri during one of the practice just missing the wall right in front of where we were sitting.
Bad Drive of the Year - Max in Mexico. I am a huge fan of his but he went over the line in the race and was penalized accordingly but it goes back to the FIA and their inconsistent penalty applications. In Austin Lando got 5sec and in Mexico Max got 10sec for the same type of incident.
Looking forward to 2025. I hope the racing is as close as 2024 and may the best drive and team win the championship.
Looking forward to having 11 teams on the grid in 2026.
Sorry, for the long post.
