Fatbike or am I full of squishy $hit

Damn it's already to late they are gonna be here soon. If it's the problem with shelf at bead stop it has been fixed otherwise do tell here publicly.

Nah, it's with the rims itself. The outer wall is too thin and under proper tension the carbon bulges. I had to back them off almost 2 full turns to get the rim to stay flat, low enough that I wouldn't put them on my own bike (or sell them to anyone for that matter).

There's always a chance this was a bad run, hopefully you get lucky and yours don't do it.

Centered yes, but they're offset to the outsides of the rim.

If you look closely at this pic, as you follow up the right side you can see the rim deform where the nipple is. This is with about 3/4 recommended tension on it. Fine for snow, beach, south jersey riding, but for where you are, I wouldn't trust them.

That's really odd Jim I haven't read one post about this only that the first gen of rims were extremely difficult to set the tire which they fixed the bead shelf. Did you do more then one set?
Kev Thomson would be on there but I had the 3T stem in the bin box.

Shake down where getting fat to lose some fat. It's no secret I been basically I-riding and not physically riding. Last year I would have been lucky if I got 600 miles on the bikeh where the previous year was 7000 plus thanks to bike commuting and the desire. After last year's winter combined with a terrible job change, riding was not in the cards for my sikey.

New Year New bike will help make some changes. Now that I am old and fat it's gonna take a little longer. I have gained probably close to 30 lbs so I got my work cut out. My moto going forward ride more and drink less which will mean eating less. Beer buzz turns into binge eating.

So the Mayor's ride today. Other then the crap x7 rear D bike rode fantastic, cockpit layout was perfect except for the saddle. Snowshoe xl worked fine on snow but had self steer as soon as it touched hardpack or pavement. Rode from concert field to KVSP and back which proved to be a bit much as my legs were dead by half way back. Even jump on cranberry lake and rode around the lake a bit. Can't wait to get some real conditioning back an to start exploring more.

Got out into jungle today. Bike rides pretty sweet. The snowshoes do self steer a bit but it's manageable. Set up tubeless with some tape and foam. Will be spending a lot of quality time with the mayor this winter. I would post a photo but tapatalk won't let me.

Before I headed out yesterday a few tweaks. First I had to ditch the WTB Volt saddle in favor for the fizik off my SS. Next I wanted to swap what I thought were heavy surly tubes with th Q-tubes instead they were maxxis 2.75 dh tubes bonus! Maxxis still heavier so continued swap even against JimV advice. No bulge at valves here so good to go. I increased my PSI front/rear from 7/9 to 9/12. At 9 in the front I noticed no self steer at that pressure but next time out I am gonna go back to 9 in the back. I also swapped my rotors in favor of the windcutters over cleansweeps.

The ride was lower Stephens from the Rangers station. I am starting to have that warm cockpit feel when everything just feels right. I also got the brake pads embedded in. Rode the whole maze loop and around tilcon lake. 11.5 miles in 2 hrs. Felt pretty good after warming up but far from my former self. Many fat tracks out there.

What rims are they on there? Do the single tape method and it'll seat. I've gotten a bunch of dumb rims to set that way.

Unfortunately not. It's the same as the foam method, sans foam. Use a tube to seat the bead, undo one side, remove tube, flip the open side face down and reseat. Then put Stan's through the valve. That's worked on everything I've tried, included the Framed wheels which I believe are the same.

Tape bead socket to bead socket? I have tyveck tape which light and slippery and must notably durable. It's used in construction.

Nice looking Fatty errr....Matty! I've read the split tube method works well with the Weinmann rims but since I am still waiting on delivery I have not tried it myself. Will give it a shot once the bike arrives.
Have you ever converted Weinmann rims to tubeless Jim V. Interested in what you found sucessful!
