Electronic vs mech drivetrain

i'm more seraph 😀, but that aside -
i think i shift more on the mtb than on the road - always going up or down, getting in the right gear for an obstacle, getting up and restarting....
and i'm almost always in the upper half (easier) part of the cluster.
mostly cause i suck even more at downhill segments than i do climbing. think i'm 1x10/46 on the tallboy. and typically run out of heart/lung/balance/traction
before running out of leg strength (we don't have extended climbs here??) 10T is for the road at 6mr to get back to the lot.

i don't think i'd rip apart a bike to switch it to 1x, but buying/building, i like it.
i was using the bigger chainring as a bashguard anyway 😀

Disc brakes won’t make anyone faster on the road. Mainly due to brakes are meant for slowing a bike. But the industry and LBS will disagree. Also very very very compliant! Buy buy buy at your LBS. FEED THEM. FEED

Better brakes will definitely make you faster on a road course assuming your rim brakes don't provide more stopping power than your tires can handle(can they lock up the tire?). You can now break harder which means later. Later braking means more time at speed and faster times on a course. If you aren't racing this clearly doesn't matter so disregard

Grrrr you have a point. So where is the line drawn between truths and industry brainwashing. No one here would actually benefit from a 1 by unless there are “simple”. Now that’s a fact.
Not exactly true, the benefit is less complicated, one less thing to break, lighter, more clearance.

I was on one by since ‘97, because 42 tooth “compact” chainrings were dumb AF. So when the industry went that way, I was happy (for once).

In regard to needing a 30-50 having recently went from 36-40, to 30-42, I found I really liked the lower gearing, especially with a heavier bike. Spin to win.

@fidodie is a god, now that made me rLOL
