Electronic vs mech drivetrain

I decided to do that on my last bike except i used the gears one time. Want a near new xx 10speed set? Lightest around

I'm looking at this now for next bike. I don't think the weight difference is significant so for me it comes down to what is more useful: electronic shifting 11 sp or the extra gear of an eagle 12 sp?

Sram stuff is outrageously priced, so more expensive to maintain, however you can do a god shifter and a GX rear . I dont see another gear as a game changer, especially for the flat lands, However, like anything, 11 spd will be obsolete in 2 years

That's what I'm thinking, I rarely use all 11 gears now in NJ, why would I need 12?

30x50 seems insane. (that is how they ship a hightower.)
well, until i saw norm climb that rock plate at CR with ease up top where the red connector comes in after that pile of tree trunks.
but that seems the exception?

I'm going to be enjoying the Eagle GX drivetrain (30x50) on my new bike in Allamuchy this year.......Especially given the weather won't give me a break and I'm out of shape. Although I feel its only a matter of time before I whack that low hanging derailleur.

Gotta ask...why all the hype with everyone over the “1 by’s”? Umm that’s only 12 run a 2x11 that’s 22. Unless it’s cross, it’s absolutely pointless. Clean that sh!t and tune, ain’t that hard. Another generation of the bike industry and LBS. Troll as hell but true. Rick go 2 by electro. And if the 1 by’s are more simple or hardcore? Run a SS. DONE. I WIN!

much more simple to deal with, less expensive (er 1x11 or 1x10 anyway) and with the wide range-rear clusters, you can choose which end to give up (the top end always suffers!!! )
bigger in the back means bigger in the front, which means more top end!!! (but nobody does that)

now to support your point, they are selling something that costs less to build for more cause its new.......

That’s what I’m saying! Still don’t get it, unless you’re avoiding the pits in CX run a 2 by and have top bottom and even side to side. They sell everyone for simple but just tune if it’s funky? On the trail if mud prevents your FD from working that you’re probably preventing others from enjoying the trails due to ruts ppl are creating. I love how they are pushing for the 1 by’s in the road, can’t wait to fall victim to those gear jumps, 90rpm to 50rpm. They are cadence killers. Grrrrrrrr might go to a 3 by and narrow bars. My FD never missed a shift even when I was making canyons in my local trail just saying

And... don’t forget if you buy this bike at your LBS, it will be more “complient”. Spelling aside my favorite bike industry word. Yes yes spend spend spend. The eagle is more like a sparrow

On the road and CX I notice the cadence jumps and run a tight cassette cluster with a 1x. But, I'm also strong enough to not need the low end at all. Basically like only running a big ring. On the MTB, I've never noticed it, even with Eagle.

How is a gear set more compliant? <-actual spelling.

JimV and Fiodie you guys are gods. Especially with that Alaska stuff. As far as compliant I’m saying how the industry sells everything on that term. Excluding gearing. But seat

Seat posts, camel backs, sunglasses, socks. I mean no disrespect but ask any old roadies from the 70s if they rather have 1x12 or 2x11 what do you think they’d awnser with their non compliant 1 inch non tapered steerers. The bike industry is a joke we all know that. Don’t feed the animals!

I really mean no internet harm to you two. That crazy AK ride you do. Something like that makes sense for eagle. I think most eagle doesn’t apply unless it’s the heckler or something.

But some seats, seatposts, tires, frames, etc, actually are more compliant than others. Like, my handmade steel bike is more compliant than my carbon road bike. My fat bike is more compliant than my single-speed. Those are real things that are true, not just hype.

Grrrr you have a point. So where is the line drawn between truths and industry brainwashing. No one here would actually benefit from a 1 by unless there are “simple”. Now that’s a fact.

Disc brakes won’t make anyone faster on the road. Mainly due to brakes are meant for slowing a bike. But the industry and LBS will disagree. Also very very very compliant! Buy buy buy at your LBS. FEED THEM. FEED
