There used to be parts of the trail that were legendary, if you could clean them you were the man (or woman). Kind of what kept us coming back, training harder.

This still exists. I only get enjoyment out of doing a slow crawl through and insane rock garden or climbing an impossible section of trail. I dislike flow and don't care about going fast. Other people don't care about these things and like to go fast. Why give a fuck about it and tell people their way of enjoying the trails is wrong?

Thats kind of the point of an internet forum, to discuss shit, agree, disagree, argue. Why even bother posting here then?

But I don't have time, so an ebike lets me ride more in less time. Or, its a great training tool. Or its saves me from shuttling. Lots of good (marketing) reasons for the able-bodied to justify this. Kind of defeats the purpose why many of us started riding though, especially in the woods. If you can clean an impossible climb on an ebike, so fuckin what? I don't like Greg LeMond, but I like this quote of his:

"I have always struggled to achieve excellence. One thing that cycling has taught me is that if you can achieve something without a struggle it's not going to be satisfying."
True… but that's also why I like riding a hardtail once in awhile. Some parts of the ride are easier. Some parts harder. But either way it's a different experience. For what I enjoy about riding an e-bike doesn't meet my needs.

I won't say I'll never get an e-bike, as my needs may change. An old friend is shopping for an e-bike now. She'll be 60 this year and has really bad knees. Long climbs are rough on her.

In 5 years I'm make it a point not to wave hello as I pass you on every climb. 🤪

You dislike flow? But what about the flow of a slow rock garden? Everything flows...

However this does explain the fat bike thing...

the last segment on Netflix: Accomplice (mountain bike film) on Paul Basagoitia was cool. I couldn't even tell he was on an ebike when he started pedaling away

The film itself was meh. No good stories except the last on Paul.

Agreed. The Paul piece has been probably the best E-Bike argument yet.
