Considering it's price point, this thing actually seems well done.

So cool, and my property is actually perfect for something like that but - and this is a rare moment of clarity - I know I wouldn't use it more than a handful of times. Hell, I have a CRF50 and 70 (with 'adult' springs, seat, and bars) that haven't been run in years. My friend Tom and I had all kinds of lines carved out but we only actually got together a few times. I can't tell where the trails were anymore.

The Yamaha is still a prototype but this is for sale:

$10,999. Kind of neat that it has a clutch. So you can go backwards, I guess. Or spin the motor up and really lunge at something?
Thankfully I spent all my money on a new fat bike 😉

I read that thing weighs more than 90 lbs., that is more the 2 of my ebike. Also, it's a Class 2 so not welcomed here.

I rode an Ibis Oso up in Stowe and I loved it! It felt a lot like my Ripmo except for the pedal power. Then I spent a week in Zermatt where everyone was riding eBikes for the 6000-7000 foot ascents (and then through town and to dinner and to pull their kids and groceries). They were everywhere. It’s moving up my list of things I want should I win the lottery. I wouldn’t use one to ride locally - need the 2-3 hours of workout. But take one to an epic place, like Canada or out west and you can just go and do and see more and not die. I know I can’t do Class 4 climbs or 4+ hours on my analog bike. I’m no Nagy.

What's better for electronics than salt water, right? 🙄

If I were looking for a utilitarian 2WD e-thing that's not class 1, the UBCO 2X2 looks more interesting to me. But I'm a motorcyclist too, so I'm probably biased...

I'm questioning how useful a 2wd ebike could be. How do 2wd motorcycles fair in races like dakar against regular bikes.

IMO if you want to have a 2wd ebike with fat tires to work properly you need to gear it down for grunt, maybe 15mph or less that could climb a wall and not get hot.

Christini in Philly sells a 2WD fat tire e-bike. TBH, that is one I really want for the silly novelty of it.

I'm sure if I bought one it will never snow around here again.

I actually demo'd one a long time ago. It was a Christini bike but obviously not electric. I think it was either at a Jorbafest event, 24-Hours of Allamuchy, or Mountain Man at Mahlon Dickerson. I thought although it was interesting, I saw no real benefits because the power and torque was distributed evenly (mostly) between the front and rear wheels all the time. There may be some loss of power to torque to the front due to the flexible drive shaft but not enough to make a difference. So most of the time all that energy going to the front is not needed or desired in a full analog fixed system. Now, on an ebike using a front hub motor and a controller with some brains, power and torque to the front can be delivered at will only when and where it is needed is a totally different story. Imagine a front wheel pulling you out of a turn on a berm? Also, having a hub motor will allow for a full suspension bike because no drive shaft.
