It's the person on the bike, not the bike, that determines respect for other riders.
I don't get it. Do people think ebikers are disrespectful of other riders because they can? Or, would they be that way anyway, even if they weren't on an ebike? I think it's much more the latter than the former.
So, a summary of some of the "logic" posted here is that ebikers are cheaters who don't earn it through hard work and only want the easy way out. Nothing new in that attitude.
I got an ebike because I want to do more, not less, not easy. As a 65 year old grandfather, I can do much more on every ride with an ebike and I set it so I work appropriately hard. I just want to go out on the trails and have fun without being judged or shamed for what I'm riding by lycra-clad elitist Strava KOMers who feel riding is only about "hard" work and everything is a contest.
Maybe there are bikers on here who are in their mid-60s or even older who can do everything they could do 20 or 30 years ago and more on a regular bike. That's great, but should I be looked down upon for riding one? Maybe there are others on here who are 10, 15, 20 years or more younger who don't have any idea. They will some day.
This doesn't even address what ebikes do for people with injuries, who would not be able to even ride otherwise. What does that have to do with "hard work"?
