I have no dislike for ebikes, I'm a live and let live guy these days. I do dislike almost getting murdered by 2 guys on ebikes at 6mr coming up on me like they're on motos on a blind corner. Or I guess I just need to get faster at getting out of the way.
Yes, this ^

Yeah but that's the case at 6mr with clowns on analog bikes as well

It's the person on the bike, not the bike, that determines respect for other riders.

I don't get it. Do people think ebikers are disrespectful of other riders because they can? Or, would they be that way anyway, even if they weren't on an ebike? I think it's much more the latter than the former.

So, a summary of some of the "logic" posted here is that ebikers are cheaters who don't earn it through hard work and only want the easy way out. Nothing new in that attitude.

I got an ebike because I want to do more, not less, not easy. As a 65 year old grandfather, I can do much more on every ride with an ebike and I set it so I work appropriately hard. I just want to go out on the trails and have fun without being judged or shamed for what I'm riding by lycra-clad elitist Strava KOMers who feel riding is only about "hard" work and everything is a contest.

Maybe there are bikers on here who are in their mid-60s or even older who can do everything they could do 20 or 30 years ago and more on a regular bike. That's great, but should I be looked down upon for riding one? Maybe there are others on here who are 10, 15, 20 years or more younger who don't have any idea. They will some day.

This doesn't even address what ebikes do for people with injuries, who would not be able to even ride otherwise. What does that have to do with "hard work"?

I really don't care what anyone else rides, jerks are going to be jerks be they pedal powered or battery powered. I wouldn't let someone's opinion on a Bolivian basket weaving forum change my mind or make me feel lesser than for wanting to be out on the trails. Just keep riding and finding your joy.

Here's a screen shot from Mission Control during my Commute to work. This is going up Glenside Ave in the Watchung Reservation. You can clearly see that the eBike is not only slower than a normal bike, it also requires a higher effort, even with 100% assist. The mindset that there isn't work being done is a huge pile of ignorant horseshit.

Same segment on the Amish bike is 16.5mph at 323 Watts.

Who would have thought Fat bikes are now "light & fast" ???

I think your ebike is broken

It's the 1 lbs of feathers vs 1 lb of lead argument.

Is a 240 lb dude on a 38lb enduro bike worse for the trails than a 200 lb dude on a 45 lb e-bike?

Climbing yes - this is a different scenario - the claim that dismounting on tech trails is difficult due to weight of the bike.

If it’s slower while being more work, what exactly is the point if it? Ride a regular bike with 40lbs in your pack. I demoed a Levo SL up in VT just to try a newer ebike, experience it for myself, and if most definitely was easier climbing.

It's easier for you because you don't put out enough wattage to bypass the motor. So if you normally ride at 150 watts, yes, it will be easier because you're now able to do 250. If you're an actual cyclist 250 watts is Zone1.

Maybe you should get a full power E-bike so you too could ride lazy like the rest of the non-cyclists.

Never go full E-Bike.

But seriously, I'm probably gonna buy a Globe when they come out in 2024. As long as that Class2 Legislation doesn't pass anyway.
