Was thinking about the above. We have a fleet of demo bikes and our shop errand bike is a Haul, who pays for those? The company I work for will scrap that whole side of the business if it costs more than $1.

How do the scooter rental places work down the shore? I'd imagine it'd work similarly. I'll ask my buddy, he rents them out. Do the scooter renters need a motorcycle endorsement? Will bikes need one?

Does anyone think there will be some pushback from the the shore town (or any town) bike rental shops that rent e bikes?
From what I see that's a good part of their rental business or do they just jack up rates to cover registration and insurance?
The bike industry and cycling advocacy groups pushed back as hard as they could, but the other interests won out. I'd imagine the insurance industry has an opinion on it. It'll be interesting to see how much insurance will cost. Probably enough that many parents won't be buying e-bikes for their kids.

On a side note, I'm pretty sure that e-bikes are popular with undocumented immigrants who find it tough to get a driver's license.

I don't see many parents buying an Ebike for their kid if they are informed that they need to also get insurance for it regardless of how much it costs.

What about non-NJ residents? If I ride my eBike across state lines and get pulled over, what are the regulations? Am I no longer allowed to ride in NJ? NY doesn’t have this stupid law. I probably couldn’t register an eBike if I wanted to.

On a side note: NJ bike shops are really fucked.

This is an interesting question likely not addressed in the law (but will be addressed through case law by the courts). In a motor vehicle, an out of state driver has a touring privilege while traveling on roads in NJ for 60 days. Your home laws apply but cannot be enforced by NJ cops. And you have to follow NJ motor vehicle codes for traffic but not for equipment. After 60 days, you are supposed to get a NJ driver's license and register the car in NJ.

Examples:

A PA driver driving a PA-registered car can drive around NJ with an expired inspection sticker. NJ officers cannot enforce that.

A FL driver driving a FL-registered car has to stop at red traffic signals but can have no front plate and tinted windows even though a NJ driver in a NJ-registered car needs a front plate and cannot have tinted windows.
