Drones overhead tonight (many)

Ya the minute the flew them over Picatinny, FBI will certainly be involved. It is a no fly zone.

they just put up the flight restriction from surface to 2,000 feet - it is kinda hard to miss that airspace with Broadway and Sparta VOR - but that traffic is high.
Although any low loitering over any military installation is a bad idea....

Larger circle is picatinny, smaller one is trump national golf course.
Solid blue line to the right is Newark's airspace.
Another 4 years of osprey rattling my house, and having to park where all the birds like to nest in the plane.

See last line of NOTAM for reason

I called the local police and the cop called me after not getting out of his car and doing an uninspiring search.

He asked if I had a shotgun, and said that he woudl just shoot them down if it were him. I found this advice to be foolish at best.

I did make a report here: https://www.njohsp.gov/threat-landscape/report-suspicious-activity
If I were in a situation in NJ where the target was 200ft from an outbound property line and 450 from a dwelling, you’d better believe I’d shoot it down. Where I live though, a jet from my pressure washer would do the trick.

Pretty sure this is @UtahJoe flying these around, but there’s an NDA.

Maybe I’ll stick around late at the Arsenal one day and see if they take off from the golf course. Seen them a few times out the window in Mendham.

Nice that he encouraged you to commit a federal felony crime. Until somebody writes a specific law they’re considered aircraft. Which you’re also not supposed to shoot down.

So last night my towns local FB page absolutely exploded with drone reports EVERYWHERE. Over the mall, over my towns local park.....video after video....and im like....JFC, these people are taking videos of AIRPLANES!

I would call myself something of a plane spotter.......I can walk outside of my house and I can ID most planes just by sound....Almost all jet liners that pass over my house on their way to newark are at 5000ft, but occasionally one will pass at 4000'......I can tell just by the sound.....Point being, im like REALLY aware of whats flying around overheard.....I don't think most people have paid any attention until someone said there are drones flying around....Now people are paying attention and realizing that at 6pm on a weeknight....the skies above NJ are just as busy as the highways are. There is never a minute over my house where there isnt a plane on its way to either Newark, Morristown, Teterboro, many small airports (caldwell, Lincoln Park, etc) as well as JFK and LaGuardia.

So if you are looking for or are concerned with drones, id recommend getting one of the flight tracking apps, I use this one https://www.flightradar24.com/

You will at least know if what you are looking at is a plane or not. MOST every plane will have its transponder on and show up, sometimes military planes won't

I went back last night to see if there was anything weird going on with the state police helicopters....didnt notice anything over my town....but something was going on near Rahway.....first the state police helicopter came in and landed, then 3 news helicopters were hovering overhead for a while....40x speed

ugh, looks like it was a fire 🙁

One of the cool things when I worked in the city on the West side was watching liners lined up for landing at Newark. It's like clock work. Same with take off. You'd see basically over a dozen liners lined up continuously.

“We never found out what the actual drones were,” Serge said. “It’s kind of a mystery. We were asking around about that, but nobody knew anything.”

Most likely people seeing airplanes and thinking they are drones...but if you tell the medivac helicopter..."hey we might have drones flying around" and its dark outside...they are not going to take a chance crashing into one. I know I wouldn't if I was a pilot.

Very cool, wish I had this last night at about 9pm when a house shaking chopper flew over. Is there a way to see past flights?
you might have to have the paid version like I do, but yes, it has playback....or just tell me roughly where you live

S76 is a big helicopter, flying under 2000 ft at 165 knots, you would certainly feel this go by if your house is near that track

There's an astronomy FB page which has blown up since the aurora borealis happened. It's great that more people are looking up, but man some of those folks have never seen a cloud, or contrail, or plane, or star, or planet....
Point being, your average observer is pretty often unreliable.
