Ron, its cool man. I kind of like it. Makes me sound intimidating, almost like the Human Vise but without any special powers.

whats with those road blocks, are they there to slow you down? I dont know anything about cross racing...what do they do put a bunch of obstacles in your way and you have to negotiate them?

In a cross race there are various types of dismount sections. Barriers like those are most common. You may see stairs, logs, or steep climbs that cannot be ridden. These areas that provide the most excitement during the race. Some riders are silky smooth getting off and on, while others look like me dancing on my wedding day. 😀

I tried to do a relatively quick re-mount after a dismount yesterday and almost crashed/castrated myself. It's apparently not a skill to be taken for granted.

Quick catchup

Yesterday I took the day off. 52 miles, 3000 ft elev., I went up over and back over Sourlands. It's been a month since I did a 3 hour + ride on the road. I stopped by J's on the way home. It was a bit rough at the end as I felt either malnourished or tired from the accumulation of stuff.

Anyways, I think tomorrow will be a spinner day at some point since it looks like a washout.

This was a specially fun race for a few reasons. One is that THIS WAS CLOSE TO HOME. Every race is 1.5 hours away. This 20 mins is heaven

Two, it was great to have the crew of team and friends of team yelling and cheering and stuff.

Three, I felt great, and even tangled with the recovering JimV for two laps. He just edged me out in the last stretch on a better line (I guess didn't learn a thing the first time he did that ON THE SAME STRETCH). So I finished two behind JimV, 18th out of 54 finishers. Way to go Jim, it was obvious that you were sparing the shoulder, or my ass would've been toast.

Mud was thick, and I don't know how all my stuff kept spinning. Only once did my chain I think came loose somewhere, but I backrotated, and got it back in without missing a beat. Sick ... check this out

Mercer cup day 1

A quick recap of day 1 at Mercer

I finished 36 out of 128 starters in the 8am Cs race, which is ok. Huge field. It was a pretty consistent race for me, no spills no mishaps no tangles. It felt a bit like a crit (as I imagine a crit feels like) as there were a lot of long non-technical stretches, and a whole lot of roadies. I had the advantage on the turns and they got me on the straights.

I was feeling a bit under the weather, but more was the fact that I've not ridden much at all for the past month. I am averaging maybe 30 miles a week or something stupid like that, really made up of weekend cross and/or Tue night 6 mile. Work sucks in that it's incredibly busy.

Anyways, I had to bail right away after the race, sorry I couldn't cheer on the teammies in B. I took the kids to hockey so I had to coach for 2 hours, which wasn't too much fun.'

But, when I got home, mrs kush washed my bike!!! That was supremely cool.
