Commuting

Been quite here i hope you all are taking advantage of the good weather. Been still rolling along myself without much excitement though i did almost get squished by a school bus. All i can think of is Otto at the wheel. Did get a hudson dr. Ride in with Soundz yesterday, he is coming along well. Tomorrow Yrob is gonna meet up with me on his newly applied campy Cdale. I talked to Soundz about a Piermont loop in the am, figure if i am on the bike by 5am i should have plenty of time to get 40 miles before work.

The good weather has been here, but unfortunately for me, my 4 month old has been protesting sleep at night. wife gets up with him, but as soon as there is baby crying or movement in the house, I'm awake. I feel like this when the alarm goes off

National Bike to Work Week and in honor of bike to work day, I am riding with my son to school and then into work. He is pumped about it, 2.5 miles for him.

I rolled in this morning. Got a late-ish start and saw your whip at Overpeck. Should be game to roll tomorrow.

Piermont loop sounds crazy. I wouldn't want to do that on my commuter. Maybe if I put road rubber back on other TCX. Don't think I'm ready to ride my road bike into work yet.

Ordered a Salsa rack and a pair of Ortlieb bags for my Vaya. The book bag thing just doesn't work well and I sweat like a pig even when it was in the 60's.

Booya yeah about to lose back pack too, ok for winter but not so good when temp goes up.

Agreed, a backpack isn't bad in the winter but once the temps start creeping racks are the the only way to go.

Dustin, how much stuff are you toting? I ask because having used both panniers and a trunk style bag, if you don't have to carry too much stuff the trunk bag keeps the bike behaving much more like a bike. Panniers make things more interesting when standing or in advanced maneuvers. Pannier bags are great if you are toting a bunch of stuff, trunk bags are better if you are just carting lunch and a change of clothes

Lunch, shoes, lights w/ battery, typical bike ride stuff... Tool tubes and stuff, change of clothes and a lock. The bags are more than I need I'm sure of it.

Got you. The stuff you can carry on a commuter adds quick when you have all that room. It takes awhile to get a commuting setup dialed in.

Ortlieb bags are probably the best related bike purchase I have ever made.

My crap commuter bike has a crappy trunk bag which I find great to leave on there and if I need more space I put a pannier bag on. Only issues I have had is my junk laptop pannier made by Louie garneau bounces off when riding dirt paths or hopping curbs

not an actual commute... but I went to work, then got on my bike, road back into NJ. I hijacked some of Mattys commute roads and then rode back to work....

There you go a little gotham in your pocket.

Today i had more close calls then in the past year. Guess because i rode the new Seven. Just as i was entering the Park and yes i had the green light a young punk was Blowing the red. He just clipped my rear wheel and managed to break a spoke. Second ride and already this shit. I really don't want to ride this bike in because of this but planned to do a ride up 9w after work. I haven't been able to find time to ride this bike and this weekend isn't looking good either. Guess i will have to swing by Tenafly and see if Yrob can hook me up on my way up 9w.

Mission bike to school and work thwarted by my son having pink eye. He was really upset he could ride in.

Matt, the later you leave the hairier things get. Its all the looney's running late for work. Glad to hear its just the bike and you made out alright.

So i think i mentioned my fair weather co worker and yes long time friend has gotten back to commuting by bike again. We usually start together when we leave but then i leave him behind which he is cool with. I noticed today his fitness has improved as he held on till under the bridge climb where i didnt see him again. I get to my car and notice a voice message so i no it prolly means he needs rescue. Call and can barely make it out something about some asshat hit him. Now im thinking he got hit by the car so hustle up by car and give him a car. Give him a call where proceeds to inform me he had a head on with another biker he was on the upgrade while the other was on the down side. There are 2 high speed blind corners on the bridge entrance from NJ and after the 2nd pier in NY this was the latter. He got scratched up but his bike actually snapped in half. Dude doesnt have any money and was trying to commute to save money. So i am asking if anyone has a 56/58 road frame out there they can part with hit me up.
