Commuting

5 points!!!

only once a week as of late. Plenty of excuses mon-wed. Feel mentally better from ride. A rock shot out and pinging a car at a light. I braced for road rage as that car passed but I think it had turned off. phew

Been off the commuting scene for the last few weeks due to a nasty sprained ankle. Did a trial run Saturday on the road bike and clocked 16 miles so I figured I was good to go. Only rode in Monday and today (the ankle is still not 100% so I'm trying to ease back in) but it felt AWESOME, and I actually took almost almost 15 minutes off my original commute time from a month ago.

Everyday, I learn a new lesson on the road and today was no different. The weather was perfect when I left this morning and the ride felt great. About half way through the day at work I noticed the weather looked and felt like it was taking a turn for the worse. I tried to blow out of work as early as possible to beat the rain.....no luck. I get out the door of my building and I must have turned the crank two times before the rain started..... and I have no rain gear. The first 7 miles weren't too bad, but the wind picked up and the rain came down a little harder and the last 4 miles or so were pretty miserable. Lesson learned: rain gear is probably a good investment.

Best part of the trip was when I walked in the house and my wife looked at the water dripping off my helmet and face and asked me why I didn't call her for a ride.
My response "Because I'm not a *****!"
Her response "No, because you're a NUT!! What's wrong with you?!?!?"
I didn't say anything back, but a sly smile must have formed on my face.........because I thought to myself "I LOVE commuting on my bike!!!!"

Cool man. Keep on trucking. She'll get used to it. My wife and family has. Family always says "you are crazy" and "stop biking so much to work." WTF is that? lol

No matter what you will get wet. I don't mind if it rains on me on the way home. If it rains on me on the way in then all my work clothes in my bag get soaked. knock on wood. Rode today. Took the chance and was fine. But I will be investing in a rain cover bag before rain gear.

2 rides this week. Today and earlier this week I drove in with bike and mashed it after work with some pretty serious roadies. Rode home after and rode in next day. I wanted to get to know some roads around work and daaaayam the roads in Long Valley / Gladstone are unreal. The homes too.

I been bad at updating. So this week i parked down by RU in Overpeck all week which means ft lee rd. hill surprisingly didn't get any easier. I did take the greenway home the other day for the first time in months, kept a full tempo out and surprised myself with the climb under the bridge with ease on the SS. Just fyi never made last part steep as shit.

City commuters lower st nick is milled.

From 145st to 125st north bound still ny where your talking is still milled too

Anyone up for Hudson Dr. tomorrow in the am? Around 6 am start at the GWB.

I'm rolling in tomorrow but can't swing the early start for Hudson Drive. Mellow commute for me tomorrow.

I can go but it will be painfully slow. That loop used to take me 1hr .. I tried it on Sat in 3 months and took me 1.5hrs and a world of hurt.

what is this hudson drive that you speak of? I was thinking of hitting the park in the AM

Hudson Dr is a twenty loop before hitting the bridge "outstanding for being this close to Gotham" you must join if not tomorrow soon. If you want In PM me...

My employer is participating is for next week, so I signed up: http://bikenyc.org/business-commuter-challenge. We'll see how the weather cooperates, maybe I'll get a 5 day week in.

How did this morning's Henry Hudson dr. ride go? I contemplated showing up but am glad I didn't, I was totally dead. Nice morning but I had no legs. St. Nick is still milled but it is actually fine to ride on, the grooves aren't too deep.

You would have been fine cause I was just dragging along. My first ride since January was on Sat. 2nd ride was today. It's amazing how much you lose in 3 months. Today was better than Saturday though. Nice morning this morning.
