Yes there is I am tired of those stupid stairs at both ends. Bring back south side.

I'm sitting at my desk in Midtown. The commute in wasn't too bad. GWB is fine, Riverside drive is good to go. The Greenway is shut down, and probably will be for awhile. All the entrances are taped off and there are cops posted at the larger entrances along the park. There are alot of trees and limbs down from what I could see.

Traffic is pretty jammed up in places, there are no lights south of 40th so things are pretty gridlocked. Anyone thinking of driving to downtown, or even lower midtown, I would advise against it.

Good to Chris I had to drive in today because they wanted me to share parking with someone else. Tomorrow I will get back to the biking in though riverside dr is not as friendly on the way back.

Commute in was uneventful though I looked to be one of the smartest folks around. GWB was a clogged mess and co worker said he sat on a bus for over an hour on the viaduct heading into LT. Heads up on greenway as it was open for business as of last evenings commute home though it appears to have some collective mud bogs. Gas seems to be the real issue now as my hood has dried up. I got power back yesterday afternoon so the remaining gas I had went into the Fit which put a half a tank in. God I love this car.

Happy commuting fellow bikers

Thanks for the update Matty.
My office just got back online,
so I'll report on greenway conditions north tomorrow.

And yeah on gas- it's crazy out there.
Just shuttled 65 gallons back fom the tpike in Hamilton.
Drive south enough and you can outrun the madness.

Points North

The plan today was to hit the bridge at 6:30 this morning-
But when I got up at my usual time it was dark and cold,
and I realized that the important stuff waiting for me at the office wasn't 7:30a important.

Went back to bed and crossed the bridge around 8.
Pathways north are pretty well cleared at this point.
The only area I saw that still has trees blocking the path is the section of Inwood park north of the railroad crossing.
If you're coming down from the Henry Hudson Bridge, check your speed- there's a major blockage at the bottom of the hill.
Also there are some trees down on the path that goes under the HH bridge
to Edsall(?) Park.

Other than that, clear sailing on the Greenways North of GWB, Van Cortland Park along the Mosholu & Pelham.

Did see a dude riding solo on a tandem.
It may have been this guy.

Have not seen him but will be on a look out. How far north pass ft. Washington does the greenway go and can a loop be made back to bridge for some extra ride time. I tried to get soundz to get me up to high bridge but he is all talk. And no action.

Solo-tandem guy was headed south.
If you see him, don't joke that he lost someone.
He seems to have no sense of humor about that.
Probably hears it all the time.

The Greenway itself doesn't go much further- maybe a mile and a half north of Ft Washington before it becomes bike lanes.
Within about 2 miles though, you can re-connect to different greenways for miles and miles, North, East and South.
How many more miles are you looking for?

For High Bridge, you can take the g-way north on the GWB to the stairs, follow the bike path/signs to Seaman Ave and it will run you right past High Bridge.
I haven't yet dropped in there yet, since when I'm riding through there,
I'm on skinny wheels.

Parking & Route

I am currently working on a construction site @ City College near 133rd and Amsterdam. Was looking to find out where the best place to park for crossing the GWB at around 5:45 am weedays. Also where do I need to get to on the local streets for crossing the bridge.I noticed talk of a north and south side crossings and which was open or best way to go.Soundz I noticed on an old post you mentioned Hudson Terr. Is this still a good spot around this time of the morning. I do not know my way around these local streets near the bridge. I was even thinking about doing a dry run this weekend. And then maybe trying to meet up with this Team Fastbreak group possibly Monday morning. Any helpful thoughts on this subject will be welcomed.

matty,if you start from your work place.just head down towards lower east side for greenway loop.it will roughly about less than 30miles until ft.washington (this loop hasn't completed yet)
and you'll pass highbridge on your left just few miles bfore GW.

if completed,.the greenway will consist over 32miles loop.recently the path under williamburgh bridge just opened few month ago.and only few areas that still under planing or construction.esp in bronx/harlem.

it will,.took about over an hours or so to finish.🙂

Kidzach- yes, the spot on Hudson terrace should be good at that hour.
From there, it's just downhill to the bridge,
and currently the north side walkway is open.
Entrance will be on the left just before you go under the bridge.
Look for the stairs and bright orange sign.

Matty, if you're just looking for extra miles,
another option would be Soundz's TT on the boat basin road.
This has some hills and light traffic, and has more going for it than anything
I'd recommend north of the bridge.
When you come back over the bridge, hang a left ride the sidewalk along
the park, then it's another left maybe a third of a mile down hill.
You got options.

This is prolly is my go to if The Hat can find his bikes. Which reminds me to take a pic of his garage next time...

There is parking on Hudson Terrace, but it is either meter parking or Fort Lee resident parking. They are 9 hour meters though and there's like 5 spots next to a park that's questionable whether it's free or not:

Most of Englewood Cliffs has free street parking if you don't mind parking in front of someone's house .. or try to find a park to park next to.

If you go to Hudson Terrace right next to the GBW, it's quite obvious where to enter, if you look around a bit. The orange sign that Jmanic speaks of is this one:

I would show you but I got a rib injury that feels worse when I ride the bike (.. making excuses already ..).

The area that is circled free parking is where you want to be, we showed up and parked there on thursday at 7a and were the only ones. Typically that has about 4 cars with room for 3 to 4 more. So the time Kid that your looking should be solid.

Commuted in today for volunteer stint at Stuy Town which was flooded on Monday. All the cars there are ruined. Not many people left in the apartments, but there were some stubborn old folks including one 90 year old who needed much help. Got to meet a WWII vet who trained Chinese fighter pilots during the war.

Canned goods and water:

Bike is way too small for me. Gonna try to Franken-bike it, otherwise will go up for sale or donation.

Thank you for your help gentlemen.Sounds, great work on donating your time and effort .Just a follow up question. Was wondering my best route to 133rd and Amsterdam after I cross the bridge.I may hold off a few days for this route and do my normal north bergen park & ride.At the moment I'm afraid to waste even an ounce of gas.The few gas stations that even had power to stay open (with 3 hour lines) are now even out of gas.And very few were even open here in Essex county in the first place.Tomorrow is an even day so I can't even get gas if they get any deliveries in.It's crazy out there.

Gotta run out the door .. will answer your question a bit later. But in the meanwhile, here is a tip on gas:
