Commuting

Thanks again Mr. Hat. As far as the gas thing , I'll just head west and not enter a park to go riding/climbing over trees. That would be against the rules. And after NOT riding I'll hit Pennsie for some petro.

Thank you for your help gentlemen.Sounds, great work on donating your time and effort .Just a follow up question. Was wondering my best route to 133rd and Amsterdam after I cross the bridge.

Here are a few options.

Use St. Nichols: https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=...dpe&mrsp=2&sz=16&via=1,2&t=m&z=14&lci=fatbike

Use Riverside Drive: https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=...e&mrsp=2&sz=15&via=1,2,3&t=m&z=15&lci=fatbike

Greenway: https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=...e&mrsp=3&sz=15&via=1,2,3&t=m&z=15&lci=fatbike

If it's early enough in the morning, coming straight down Broadway or Amsterdam should be just fine. Otherwise, my preference would be the Riverside Drive route.

On the way back, if it's rush hour, safest route is the Greenway, but the most round-about. After that, safest I would say is St. Nichols.

It was a little brisk out there this morning. I was really surpised at how light the vehicle traffic was today, either everyone went in super early, or everyone ran out of gas.

Central Park is back open, though it is crazy with activity taking down the Marathon setup. I can't imagine how much money was blown setting all of that stuff up just to take it down. Riverside drive is 100%. I'll take the Greenway home this this evening to see how that looks.

Jimmy,

Thanks for posting that. For some reason I could never figure out the whole getting to the greenway near the bridge and would always take Riverside down.

Was hoping to fatbike in this weekend, too busy tho. Ugh.

My normal fatbike parking spot was too full for me today. Too many abandoned fatbikes combined with too many new commuters.

Clearly I need to get here earlier tomorrow...

Chris we must of taken the same route in, greenway has been solid since last wens day. I too am amazed at the amount of work done only to not have been seen. I am sure it is a big part of why Bloomberg stalled at canceling the race.

6th it has been crazy my fatbike room was triple of what it normally is.

Greenway was solid last night, but man is it dark in some places. I'm glad its clear, because even with the high beams on I was waiting to run into a downed branch or a rogue section of branch. Taking the greenway all the way to the bridge is a bit sketchy, as the re-routed section is completely unlit and very dark. I'll likely hop up to Riverside before then unless I link of with some other riders heading that way.

It was really cool to see that there was a station set up handing out blinky lights. There are definitely more people on fatbikes out there lately. Yesterday the fatbike room in my building was the fullest i've seen it, atleast a dozen other fatbikes in there.

The ride in was awesome this morning. Once I climbed the hill to Fort Lee I was warm the rest of the way. Took St. Nicholas to Central Park. I'm going to start going this way more often, the gradual downhill all the way to CP makes it atleast seem like its the fastest way in.

I will unveil my latest commuter setup. Going full on commuter arsenal now I wanted to give the roadie a rest.

There is one other way if you don't want to go North before going South. 145th street has an entrance bridge into the Greenway. Fort Washington to Broadway to 145th St. Google fatbike map refuses to map it for some reason

There were lots of volunteers out on Saturday cleaning up when I biked in.

There were a few dried up mud spots that should be watched out for as well. Free blinkies!

So i am waiting to see what becomes of a true commuter ride down the road this is truly insider shit. In the meantime I have zero xc riding so I decided to convert my geared MTB fatbike into a full fledged commuter and give my Gunner Roadie a brake. I still have the SS for dirt and now that the big mountains are gearing for snow the DH fatbike will either get put out to pasture if I find the right deal or get broken down for overhaul. I have so much on the plate in my garage I don't know where to start. I guess heat in the garage would help.

So this is what I have done to my fatbike. I did buy planet fatbike fenders for 29ers in hopes to Jerry rig into a non fender friendly frame but haven't had time or figure out yet if I can pull it off. so for now it's cruds. Got a great deal on these big apples in cream, so NYC hippster! the best part is my airhorn the single best piss off the the pissed off. This horn will blast off the deaf. No earplugs will go without notice. It's as simple as pumping it up with a floor pump and ready to blast.

Matt, did you get fenders for a rack mount frame or speed-ez's? The speed ez's are easy to manipualte with the straps and some zip ties.

Rack mounts as that was the only that I could find for 29ers. To be honest I really didn't search real hard.

If you can swap them out, the hybrid 700c models would likely work as long as you are running commuter tires. These are what I have on my cross fatbike. If not, I'm sure you will be able to rig something up. Do full wrap!

Matty if you can make it to Campmor on your way home some night, check their stock.
I think they have the Speed-Ez's Chris is rocking in various sizes,
and their prices are worth the trip. They are cheaper in store than on their website, I think you could get a pair for $25, non-Speed EZ's for like $20.

Nice commuting rig BTW.
