I'm surprised there is no race recap anywhere...

Seemed like bad race karma for many. Not me though I had a good race, felt strong and love riding the trails at Blue because it's one if the few places I know well. They have paved the main access road now, the staging was same as last year with a 20 foot dash right into the loose steep rocky double track that tripped a few riders up. From there it flowed into Monster singletrack, out and up Ned's (regular or the new bypass option), down Stinger, down Middle Stinger, over the white double rocks, down Lost bridge, 2crew live and out through the parking lot. Short course, less than 5 miles on my Gamin. I got 2nd for Cat2 U40 women and Patti got 2nd for 40+. Lance broke a chain, Ilya broke a pedal and some poor racer broke his teeth and left in an ambulance...

No results yet... Sorry I wish I'd remembered to take a picture when they were posted yesterday after the race.

I saw this happen right in front of me. Someone tried to pass in a really bad spot, took out the slower ride and just kept going. Had the faster rider waited a bit there was a much cleaner place to pass.

Hearing the guy in pain brought back some really bad memories of me two years ago.

I feel for that guy. He's a friend of a friend, so I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this. Us cat 2s got very lucky with the weather and the course was great.Myself..I was glad to have a clean safe race, but was not feeling good at all.I just had no energy & was really bummed. Was nice to see those who came out to race.

That was Percy, an Autohaus guy, who did some of the ST races. Nice guy, sucks to see this happen to him.

I was talking to one of his teammates last night who said it wasn't that bad. It sounded like it was pretty rough on the scene but I think it ended up being more of a scare than anything. I don't know this as fact, just second hand. Hopefully he's ok.

I hope Norm's info is correct and he's not hurt to bad. I came up on him and his buddy sitting just off the trail next to 2 big rocks. I asked if he needed anything and he said help was on the way already. I was trying to figure out how he got hurt because it was on a straight trail with 2 big rocks in the middle, but with a clean approach. Now hearing how he got passed on that section explains how he got hurt. Sucks to get hurt when its beyond your control. I spoke to one of his friends after who was rolling the guys bike to the lot and he was going to run over to the hospital to check how he was doing.Hope he is OK.

Yes, I hate to hear of people getting hurt too. Willy told me about that racer at my start, which I'm sure didn't help my confidence going into my race, especially after I tossed it in the creek on my warm up. I took that as a warning to ride safe. ... I did race fairly safe, but may have been a little slower than usual, which I am more than happy to humbly accept.

I am also real glad the rain held off for most the day including my start. It is hard mentally to take the start line in heavy rain. I prefer to want to start and just deal with it later. It wasn't too bad anyway.

I am pretty sore today, not sure if it was the actual race or the little spill before. I should have some booboo pictures taking full color in a few days 🙄.

Really good to see and talk with people out racing and having fun. That, with the leaves starting to open up is such a great time for me.

Percy is one of my riding buddies and we went together to the race. When i passed by him I saw he was down and offered to stay with him but he told me to go since there was already someone with him. The thing that stinks is he was supposed to go to london for buisness today and his wife gave him alot of flak about racing, that was pretty much our conversation heading to the race . I had to make the dreaded phone call when I got back to my truck which really stunk but i think its the right thing to do. When i arrived at the hospital he was hurting pretty bad. He broke 3 front teeth, alot of stiches in lower lip and a broken left thumb and a REALLY PISSED off wife when she got there. I asked him if he was taken out but he told me that he was in the lead but someone was on his wheel and he just rode above his limit to hold him off and went over the bars and hit rocks face first. all his fault said by him and he even said he should of let the guy pass. it happens and riding with Percy for the last 4 years he is a fierce competitor. He actually completed the lap cause the ATV could not reach him. He will be ok for the most part but is hurting pretty bad at the moment. And he cant make the trip to London for work cause teeth have to get fixed A.S.A.P or infection can set in. Really stunk riding home alone with 2 bikes, those thing are not supposed to happen. Would like to say thanks to all involved at the race cause when i crossed finish line they were all over me to make sure I got the message about where to go to see him.

I am glad to hear that he is "OK" (using that term very loosely) I am the promotor and hate to see guys / girls get hurt. He looked to be in pretty tough shape when I saw him with the medical people.

On a brighter note I thought the start times worked out very well. We had the day pretty much wrapped up by 2:00 which is a couple hours earlier then years past. I want to thank all the MTBNJ people who came out to race despite the bad weather forecast. I hope that you all liked the course and had as much fun as we did putting on the event.

My race ,crashed on the warm up so I knew it would be a long day but I had a great start hit that techy double track climb and came out of that in 3 rd then BAMM I just BONKED:drooling:. Got passed by a couple guys and I finally get my act together and catch them both and battle for position then I saw My buddy Percy and I think that rattled me cause i low sided really hard right afterwards. I get up no position lost and catch up and battle again then bam I go over the bars really hard and bike lands on my back and i still clipped in so I feel like a pretzel:hmmm: Finally get unclipped and get going only lost 1 spot and complete lap. When i hit pavement I see Rich who was in my class and ahead of me walking towards finish line so i ask him what happened and he says he flatted put tube in but CO2 ran empty:hmmm: so I give my pump to coarse worker to give to him Yell "see how much i love you" cause I rather beat him straight up and motor on realizing this might be my first cat 2 podium. About 2 miles in I smack a rock with pedal and chain flies off:cry: I couldn`t believe what i was seeing. jump off my bike and get my quick link but cant get it to connect cause I cant see without glasses:cry:stinks getting old and there goes one guy in my class then another and man I`m pissed and finally Jon from mtbnycitystyle stops and helped me out ( thanks Jon) and I take off on a mission but Percy is coming in and out of my brain so I decide to just back it down cause no one is near me and dismount over a tree that almost took me out on lap 1 and when I put foot down on other side I twisted my ankle so bad i dropped like a rock screaming in pain and saying to myself WTF is wrong with me today. I get up and just finish without taking many risk and finished in 5 TH. That place kicked my butt. Got home and my ankle looks like a softball and its starting to get black and blue and I get the ole look from my fiance since last year I had shoulder surgery cause of a wreck and she says "Why do you do this, your a mess" and I say honey you just don t understand 😀. Today I made it to work so i`ll be O.K.

Im a team mate and good friend of Percy Uribe the rider who your talking about. I just spoke to him and he told me that someone was on his wheel trying to get by him. When he finally passed they hooked bars and he went down quick. Never had time to do anything and felt his face hit a rock. Skipping the gory details he eventually was able to get himself to the ambulance with help from other racers. (the help was from riders who where behind him and I can only say thank you!!!!)
The latest news is that there are no further fractures, as initially feared. He broke a thumb chipped three teeth. One of those teeth he may loose (won't know for a few weeks). Needless to say he is lucky.
If you need to get by someone slower just call it out so the rider knows your passing. I know it was an accident and that things happen. But lets remember we all need to go home. And if something does happen lets stop and make sure the guy is ok. Again, thanks to those behind the incident who did stop and help.

I hope he heals up quick- I remember him from the start.

Did the racer he hook bars with actually stop and help him? Or did he leave behind? Someone said he kept on going....which is just wrong on so many levels.

Man that really sucks!!! I don't know this fella but hope everything works out good. Being someOne who had a major crash in a race, I know what it can do inside your head....

Best wishes ... Get well soon!

Pat

Looked back and asked are you ok. Then stated, that was not my fault.

I'm just as much at fault though. I at least told each spectator to call for help.

This is eerily familiar. I went down hard at the Blue race 4 years ago. It was in a rock garden on a wet day. That little mishap earned me a fractured cheekbone and 15 stiches in my upper lip. Not fun. All my own doing though.
I don't know Percy, but I hope he heals up quickly.
