Cars, it's electric! Do Do Do

sensors arent computers . . . . . . . but . . . . i would say that internally (passenger cabin related, hvac infotainment ect) the computer count would be the same. drivetrain wise a traditional car would have what? 2 computers? pcm and tcm (tho many are combined into one these days. an ev would have several including charge controller and motor controller, i dont see how they could have fewer computers on board.
The modern Land Rover Defender has 14 electronic control modules with Software-Over-The-Air updates, and 85 ancilliary ECUs. To me, that seem like a lot.

maybe, when i saw it originally there was only one version of it . . . . (i also dont see a publication date in your pdf, just a reference that production starts autumn 2021, meaning it is likely published no later than the 1st half of 2021) It also looks like the c40 design was updated for this study, it doesnt specify if the xc40 (ice version) was updated to match or still using the old data. (unless i missed it somewhere) edit here: it wasnt, the c40 is a streamlined variant designed specifically for bev with different aerodynamic shape. Im not sure if that is as accurate a comparison as the initial release.

the numbers SHOULD get better with time i agree, but i have read that the EU carbon/kwh went UP in 2021 instead of down. (tho a ~30% increase in just a year or two seems like a way bigger improvement than is reasonable, i kind of think that they changed something in their math if thats what they are publishing now)

also remember the us emits more carbon per kw/h than the EU does at this point (~372g/kwh vs 255g/kwh for EU as of 2019).

all that said, i have no clue what the answer is, but with all the heavy metals used in batteries, current battery technology is not the long term answer, it is a bandaid at best, and a kind of flimsy one for BEV without improvements in both generation and supply grid.
This actually a pro-EV video but it is critical of the current battery technology, especially in terms of scarcity of resources keeping prices high and environmental impact of mining raw materials.

The real news is there's a 3 cylinder 1.5L engine in these things? 🙂
Pretty sure Ford still makes the Fiesta ST in Europe and it's been a 3 Turbo since 2018? It supposed to be pretty good. Not sure about the one in the Bronco, but 181hp out of it with no turbo sounds pretty good, compared to say the 169hp in the 2.0 Corolla Cross. But they're catching on fire.

A turbo is just a shitty wear item on an econobox. While it's kind of neat they can make a lot of power out of a tiny 1.0l 3cylinder turbo in a Fiesta, it's just more shit to break and maintain.

Fine on a sports/luxury/etc car but less fun on an econobox that needs a turbo at 150k or more oil changes with synthetic. Plus everything plastic under the hood is cooked into flaking plastic.

@Santapez some truth to that for the S and X but the 3 is lighter. My own bad here though. Haven't rotated in 15k-20k... My front still have life

I don't understand the need for bathrooms in a park trail system. A tree is all I need

Shows up 25 minutes late at Ringwood and then spends 11 minutes in the Men's room.

That is how Russ recognizes you to this day.

95,000 miles on my original OEM tires.

I PAID FOR THAT TREAD, I'M GOING TO USE ALL THAT TREAD.

Just can't drive on rainy days.

@Kaleidopete dang that’s harsh. 16k?! Something else has to be going on or very bad cheap tires

So it’s not my fault. I have inside tire wear on all corners. Needs an alignment but no chain shop wants to do it. From what I internets it’s a simple job still! Just scared techs believing electric cars suspension is any different. Some Places in CA of course do it. Anyone know any NJ race shops for me to car? I don’t feel like going to the service center. They charge like $200+

My brother in law has done them. He works for pep boys. He thinks it's $100 for basic alignment and $200 for lifetime alignment.
