Are carbon rims too stiff? Would a high end set of alloy hoops be better, as far as compliancy? Im gonna be getting a new set of wheels for the fathom this winter and I cant decide on the Rims. Any opinions?

Ive seen Hardtail Party review these wheels. They look awesome, bur the price tag is scary 😨.

1) your asking for everyones opnion, and everyones opinion will be different.
2) (my opinion) I have a set of carbon rims that i run as my primary wheelset on my hardtail and its fine, I also have a set of alloy I9 trail wheels which are too stiff IMO on the hardtail.
3) The point Im making here is that the rim material is not the only factor to deciding wheel stiffness and feel.

ive been looking at the Nobl wheels. im just about 180 lbs geared up. and Im looking for a lighter a little more compliant wheel.

I rode Nox Composites on multiple HT‘s at 260 with zero issues. My SS still has ‘em. you’ll be fine. I’ve got moto’s on my FS… worth every penny. The HT I’m building up now has fusion fiber (Revel RW 30’s) rode them on the other frame for the last six month. Quite pleased with those as well. If you find them stiff, use a thicker casing tire in the rear and drop a couple PSI. standing more doesn’t hurt either 😉

so far, ive narrowed it down the NOX or Nobl wheels. most likely I9 or Onyx hubs. I like the 35mm width on the NOX, but the custom options on the Nobl wheels are pretty sweet.

Also rolling on a set of Light Bicycle wheels on my hardtail and so far I'm quite pleased with them. I went with a custom configuration using the AM930S rims with the ribbed inner circumference and 240 hubs. They live up to the name at just a touch over 1400 grams and the ride is less harsh than the I9 Enduro (Alloy) wheelset I originally had on the bike. I can't compare them to the Zipp's obviously and would assume that the Zipp's are a better wheel. But if your budget is a bit lower they're worth considering.

I have Nexties on my DC 29:

so far, so good.
