Interesting, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be compatible with most carbon frames that can't already fit a front derailleur of some type. It's perplexing why they don't make a bottom bracket mounted adapter, similar to the Shimano E-Type. Granted, the E-type also bolts to a threaded boss on the frame...
The frame in question is a Norco Nitro. With all of today's technology there be an easy way of making a hole and still hold its rigidity. But thanks for all the information.
In theory yes. Can you do it? Sure. What are the chances that the hole drilled will *actually* be a point of failure? Not likely, but in the event of a frame issue Norco may question why there are holes drilled into their frame that werent there when the bike was made.
You're a bigger guy, correct? Carbon frames have been known to crack, chip, dent, ding, whatever just from hitting the sweet spot on a tip over. I dont know if I would want to compromise the life of the frame by drilling a hole into it.
I googled pictures of the Norco Nitro. It's a hardtail frame, yes? Every photo I found shows the bike built up with a clamp-on front derailleur. Why risk damaging the frame instead of using what the manufacturer does?
