Car-spotting thread

I like the 4-eye DRLs but I'm not crazy about the swan-style wing. We'll see in production. Or you get the Touring package and eliminate the wing altogether. Not like it matters. I don't have a previous relationship of ordering GT cars from my Porsche dealer or $160,000.

It' probably about 6 months too late to see guys dumping their 991.2 GT3 cars into the market, too. Dilemma: Do I get the 718 GTS 4.0 now or just order an M2C and watch the GT3 market over the next few years.

Surprisingly, they are still not discounting the M2C at all (for factory orders). So that's $61,500. A GTS 4.0 is probably $93,000 the way I'd spec it (basically stripped: LED lights, Bose, extended leather dash/doors with contrast stitching).
M2C daily, save for GT2.

I'm confused - if they come out with a 718 gt4 rs, how different will that be from the 911 gt3? Looks like same motor (little less power), same tyranny, pretty much same price??

The GT4RS may or may not have the actual motorsports 4-liter from the GT3. It's probably unlikely but it's possible. That's alot of R&D for a limited run. No matter...I can't get one anyway. Waiting list/no previous relationship/etc. Paul Miller Porsche said they have some GT4 allocations because some of their customers are waiting on the GT4RS. It's also PDK only, VERY low to the ground, and no front axle lift available.

The GTS/GT4 4-liter is a bored version of the 3-liter from the 911 line (minus the turbos) and is NOT the motorsports 4-liter from the GT3. It still seems like a great motor. Dundon Motorsports devloped headers, OPF delete pipes and rear muffler for a 718 GT4 and dyno'd it at 475hp. Up from 414hp out of the box. Pretty good for no software changes. That's the same as the 991.1 GT3 cars from the factory.

The biggest difference between the 911 and any Cayman is the rear engine versus mid engine. They feel very different on the road once you start pushing them. Without question, the Cayman is the better true "sports car" with perfect balance. The 718 GT4 is running lap times similar to the 997 GT3RS.

They had a GT4 for sale down the road a few weeks ago, I'll check if it's still there.

Is the 991.1 about the same lowness as the 991.2? I sat in my friend's 991.2 4S and it wasn't much higher than the ground.

They are all really low. 991.1 and 991.2 GT3s are about the same at 3.7 inches and both are available with front axle lift. The 718 GT4 is 3.1 with a long nose and the 718 GTS 4.0 is 3.6 with a shortner nose. Guys with GT4s are bitching that they can't get them on their home lifts or shop lifts without boards/ramps.

My M2 was 4.7 with a short overhang. I never scraped.

My gt350 is 3.75" at the front splitter. That thing is so scraped most of the bolts holding it on have no drive left!

@jklett trying to figure out the whine when accelerating. Thinks the differential may need thicker oil and spotted a leak. Also battery died while there, but the low battery light was on when I left home. J helped to get a new battery but seems there maybe an alternator related issue. I'm glad he drove the car a bit as he was able to see the brake pedal issue and pointed out some other things to consider. PXL_20201031_210153714.jpg

@rick81721

Confirmed today GT4RS will not have the Motorsports 4-liter either. No room for the dry sump system, apparently.

Also, the Porsche figures on ground clearance are not splitter height. They are lowest point, which in the GT cars is directly in front of the front wheels at the brake cooling ducts. Real world clearance on the GTS 4.0 is 4.4 inches. Phew.

theres 0 material left on the underside of those cars too 🙄 not to mention most of them are so half ass put together that they are on the verge of falling apart every time they go over a piece of gravel
