I took my husband's fixed gear bike around the block to see how I felt about riding a single speed. The bike fit real nice and I kind of wanted to try it on the trails.

He said that we could not share the bike and that he would take the bike apart if he had to in order to keep me from riding it.

His counter offer is to build up a SS using an S Works frame he has hanging around.

Please let me know your opinion on this by answering the poll question: "If you had a spouse and they rode the same size bike as you, would you share your bike with them?"

No. Only because my bikes would be too big for her and her bike is too small for me. Otherwise I wouldn't mind swapping once in a while. No insecurities here.

The chance of finding someone who shares your exact dimensions is pretty small. I wouldn't have issue with an occasional ride. Beyond that...I'd liely have problems with.

You get to know your bike and gear. Each time I ride, I'm taking inventory of noises and other things that may need to be addressed upon my return home. If I shared a bike, I think I would loose that connection. It would bug me.

This is such a far off thought for me because I doubt my wife could actually ride a real bike like the ones I have. I would probably be thrilled if she could and we could share the activity, however that would be another world and if it were the case I wouldn't have an issue with an occasional ride. Kinda like what Ben said. On another note entirely I am selling a practically brand new Kona Unit SS size small...there is a post on here

Maybe if you did a better job cooking, cleaning and keeping up with the laundry.... you know... those things that you should be doing. 😀

Just kidding.

I don't see any problem with spouses sharing if they can without major changes to the bike.

i don't have this problem, my wife is on super small frames and i am usually riding the largest size frame available for a bike, but if we could share the same size bike i'd have no problem with it.

If I told my wife that I'd dismantle a bike so she couldn't ride it she' d probably smash the fucker into little pieces and laugh while doing it. I'm hoping you were kidding or your husband was just trying to find an excuse to bring another bike into the house. If it fits you relatively well what's the harm ? Ride it.

He was pretty serious about not riding his SS. The bike is too cool to smash up. It is a Spot frame custom painted bright yellow. It has these lovely squishy grips. I really liked riding it, except I didn't enjoy the non-girl seat.

I'm not sure I even want an SS. I'd have to take one off road first to make an informed decision.

I only wish we could ride the same bikes it would save lots of $ not to have to buy two of everything...

My gf/spouses road bike is worth about 5 or 6 times what my roadie is worth, so I loveeee when she lets me borrow it... When she borrows any of my mountain bikes, no so much. double standard, yes 😛

it's a fixie? maybe he is worried about your safety?

Yeh, it's not a fixie. I mistakenly thought a fixie and an SS were the same. I definately wouldn't want a fixie mountain bike. I'm going to go ahead and get the S Works built up. There's always room for another bike, right? Hubby said I took my one and only "occasional" ride on his bike when I took it out on the road.
