Is it possible for a thread not to degenerate after it gets to two pages?

some may call this degeneration, some may call this brainstorming to find a solution to a very very real issue. We are trying to help our brothers and sisters out here!

Ok, back OT.

I have ordered the CL. And I will try the glitter. I'm willing to try anything to get these tires to work for me. I will keep the world posted when anything of value happens, or doesn't.

I guess the first step would be cleaning the tire pretty vehemently.

On that note, I'm starting to think more about road tubeless with winter around the corner.

How bout the garbage? They cant do no harm there?

I think J has some road tubeless experience.

See the stack on the left? Those are Pythons, plus the 2 on the bike. I have too many to just throw away.

Side cuts? If so why continue to use (sponsor)?

Surprisingly, more often than not it's right on the tread. The sidewalls seem fine and dandy. They're no longer a sponsor, but I like the tires. They're a good mix of weight and performance, but obviously not durable. I want to go UST tires on my UST rims, which leaves my choices limited. I'm open to ideas, as always.

Yeah, I have them on the SS. But the geared bike was getting too fat so those 4 pound sneakers had to go.

not to mention, they suck balls on the rocks

Norm, try crossmax exceptions?

I have some normal crossmarks that I am planning to seal with stans, to try on the rear. I like my motorcycle tire for the front...

If it's rocks ye be ridin' it'd be worth waitin' on a UST version of Mtn Kings. Aargh.

Though if Saguros are "too heavy" I can't think of a tire that'll handle rocks that will be lighter.

I've been pondering this myself. As much as I like the Saguaros for central NJ riding, I wonder about something lighter. Pythons are made of fairy wings or moonbeams, judging by their durability, so what else is left? Toros are the same casing as Pythons. Kenda Karma? Igniter? Others? How do they work tubeless in a 29er application?

You could all just switch back to rim brakes and build your wheels with Mavic Open Pro rims... thus offsetting the weight penalty with the saguros! 😀

29er Tire options

Running 29" with a non tubeless ready or UST tire is risky as the bead dia can vary wildly. Burping tires is a hassle and it can be dangerous if it happens at the wrong time.

I have been on the quest for more options for tires that can be run on stan's rims with a nice tight fit.

WTB just announced that their 2010 29er tires will be tubeless ready. This means that the bead is made to a consistent and specific dia, but the tire is not air tight w/o some sealant. (my hope is that all tires go this way in the future)

See more WTB Stuff here:

I just ordered a set of the new Wolverine 29 x 2.2 ust tires today. I should have them by the weekend.

I also just got 20 of the Geax barro 29er UST tires in. These are much lighter than Sagauros but they still are tubeless ready.

I have ridden the Conti Mt kings for the last month on a Stan's rim with very good luck. The warning here is that the bead dia varies wildly from one tire to the next. Although I have had solid luck with this one tire, I have also seen other examples of the same tire that are way too loose.

I have also seen very good luck with Ignitors.

Rampages are always too loose.

Nevagals are inconsistent but usually loose.

Small block 8's have fit but the very porous casing spews sealant.

2009 Weirwolf was too loose.

Conti Race kings were WAY too loose.

Nokian Gazza Studded tire fit awesome but this is becuse they are wire beaded.

Just about any wire beaded 29er tire will setup very well tubeless.

On the Stan's site they have this to say about compatibility on 29":

29inch Mountain Bike Tires
# Recommended: NoTubes Crow 29er
# Any tubeless ready tire.
# Any wire beaded tire
# Most Standard tires

SO of course they push their own tire..duh.

The Hutchinson Python 29 and Toro are both awesome in terms of bead seal. The toro is a good tire but a hair low volume for my taste and just slightly too high of a duameter. The Python is a super summer tread but also a little low volume.

Funny, I have Rampages on my three bikes and have sold many. I have never had any problems running them tubeless. Personally, I run the front at about 18psi & have never had one burp (even at Sourlands).

Not that J sells them, but all of Specialized's tires are now tubeless ready.

Chris, if you want light & fast, check out WTB Nanoraptors.
