Hi all-

I'm a new poster here, but I thought this would be a good place to see if there is any interest in bringing one of Gene Hamilton's women's only camps here to the northeast. The website for his camps is here: http://betterride-net.netsolads.com/. If he did offer a camp nearby (could be as far away as Vermont), would anybody from this group be interested in attending?

It wouldn't hurt if people dropped Gene an email at betterride@gmail.com and let him know you were interested.

I am in no way affiliated with Gene Hamilton or BetterRide, I am just interested in taking one of his classes, and don't want to travel 800 miles to do it! Happy holidays to everyone, and hope Santa brings you that bike you've been wanting!🙂

Kori, I know you are interested in the women's specific clinic, but if you would be open to one that isn't women's specific, I have seen them in PA and VA. I wanted to go to the VA one last summer, but I didn't get the chance to go 🙁

Funny story... (sorry to digress, but I think you'll appreciate this). A group of friends and I (in September 2007) were riding the Bookcliffs area of Fruita, Colorado when we ran into Gene. I had never heard of him, but saw his panel van with his name on it, and he was leading a co-ed group on a multi-day skills clinic through Fruita, a truly amazing area, as fine as any I've ever seen.

The group was takin a break, so we just got to talking (he's a super friendly guy); we told him we were out for a few days from Jersey looking for some real excitement, and could he recommend a good trail for us to ride. He said, without hesitation, "You have to ride 'The Whole Enchilada', it's the best ride I've ever done.... And you have to call 'Acme Adventures' in Moab and ask for Kyle... nobody on this planet rides The Whole Enchilada like Kyle"....

So my friend Mark pulled out his cell, called information in Moab for Acme Adventures, and gives them a call. A dude answers, "Acme Adventures, Kyle speaking"... Mark pauses for a moment, and simply says "Hey Kyle, Gene Hamilton told us to call you... We want "The Whole Enchilada"... There's about 5 seconds of silence, then Kyle asks "How many of ya?". "Four", answered Mark... "Thirty bucks a head", replied Kyle, "Meet me at the Moab Visitors Center at 8AM"... (click)... he hangs up on Mark.

And that's how it went down... We thanked Gene, then headed out for Moab in the morning. The Whole Enchilada is the most amazing ride of my life.

My point here... I'm sure Gene Hamilton would give a great clinic back East (or wherever he goes)... But consider letting Gene take you on a ride in Colorado on his home turf... or better yet, on his favorite ride, The Whole Enchilada... It's so worth the trip. I love riding New Jersey, but I so cherish the 2 trips I've made to Fruita and Moab.

If you bring Gene East, please ask him to talk about "The Whole Enchilada"... You can catch some cool videos of our 2008 trip to Fruita/Moab on Blip.TV.

Thanks for all the feedback! And that's some great video, bb! My husband was watching over my shoulder and drooling a little! Someday I'd like to ride in Colorado (my brother lives out there), but I really want to learn to ride a little better first so I can enjoy it more.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything that comes up around here, and keep you all posted if I find anything. I would really prefer the women's-only group - I ride mostly with men now (like my husband) and it's hard for me to learn from them because they can power through hard stuff, where I need a little more technique. But, I may reconsider come the springtime, and head to Philly or Virginia for the co-ed group.

I think this is great. Sounds like a fun trip. I am just a beginner, so I am interested in clinic. I definitely send him an email. Thanks for the info.
Happy Holidays 🙂

There are female riders on this site who could put a clinic together if there were enough interested, just my opinion.

RC ... Merry Christmas

I have said this before, to Pedals and anyone else that would listen, that we have males and females here that would do a great clinic for anyone that wanted.

I would be happy to put one together for the spring if you would like. I have several people in mind that I would ask to lead it.

Ruth

That sounds like a great plan. It would be a way to get people together and spring is the time to do it. I'd help if needed.

I spoke to the powers that be ( Normie) and it is official. We ( mtbnj) will host a clinic this spring. I will keep you all updated on the details and I will be reaching out to you for particulars of what skills you would like covered.

Ruth

Excellent! That is great, Ruth! Keep us posted on all the details.

Kori

Will do. I am thinking March, before the team gets busy racing. As soon as we nail down a date, I will post it up.

Tell me about what skills you all would like to work on.

Probably the main thing is just to build confidence. I have a tendency to get off the bike more than I should. I also seem to fall alot, especially at very low (or no) speed. I ride clipless, and I don't think I am 100% there with unclipping (or staying clipped in) when it's necessary. Climbing is a bit of an issue, but that may be more of a fitness thing. I will be working on my fitness this winter.

My husband is years ahead of me as far as ability, and although he tries to help, he really doesn't remember what it's like to be a beginner! So basically, anything would help. Thanks again for volunteering to help.

Im excited for a clinic...I wanna work on a little bit of pushing speed on flat surfaces...I have good endurance and fast recovery but slow down in the build up too quickly. I also wanna work on changing gears...and anything else you throw out there..its all worth it!
